These weren't her blankets, and this wasn't her bed. She'd been aware of this before she woke up, but not in a clear way, not in a way that made sense. Nothing has made sense for a long time. There'd been days and days of dreams, or things that weren't dreams but might as well have been. Monsters and voices and pain. The kind of sleep that ached rather than soothed. But she was aware of the bed now, the bed that wasn't hers. That was good. That was a start.

I was surprised at how much Jane's story intrigued me.

I was completely wrapped up in Jane's story.

Me too. If the focus had been Sidra I wouldn't have gotten far with the book - her story didn't start grabbing me until near the end, although there was a bit of 'will she be outed' anxiety in a couple of the public scenes.

I agree. The Jane storyline is what kept me coming back for more. I didn't start to care for Sidra till later, too.

Definitely where the main tension of that plot-line comes in. I rather liked Sidra, and her weird body-disconnect.

I think that one of things I liked the most about Sidra was the body kit. She never, ever started to think of it as her "body" (view spoiler)

And I loved the transition to that as well.

It resonated with me, especially as I often thought/think of my brain as riding around in my body.

Hubby says that "you are not your body" in the same way that a driver is not their car. You guys seem to think a bit alike.

message 11: by Beth (new) - rated it 4 stars

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 54 comments In morbid moments I sometimes call my body the meat carrying my soul around, which isn't too different, maybe.

On to the recent chapters! I thought it was darkly ironic that practically the first thing that Jane comes across in her new situation is (view spoiler).

The scene where (view spoiler) was very cool and also mildly terrifying. But I'm also scared of flying even a few miles above the ground, much less thousands.

I'm somewhat disappointed with the lack of characterization for (view spoiler).

In Sidra's section, considering the "closing the circle" imagery of the three parts' titles, I have a good guess about where the reveal about (view spoiler) will go.

This is where interrupting my reading was a cry for being beaten. I was O_O
