Hi everyone!

Here you can suggest a book you'd like to read for the BOTM of May :)

- You can suggest one book. (At first I said one or two, but due to the amount of books that have already been suggested, I'll narrow it down to one book.)
- The book can be the first book of a series or a standalone.
- This thread will close the 23th of April, so you have still a week to vote on the poll.
- A poll will be created the 23th of April, including 6 of your suggested books with the most recommendations and the highest average ratings on GoodReads.
- The poll will close the 29th of April and the BOTM May will be announced :)

My suggestions would be:

The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1) by Robert Galbraith or The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

Because these two are already out for a while, I think it would be easier to get them in your local library or bookshop :)

When you choose 'add book/author', you can choose the box 'cover' instead of the box 'link', before you search for the name of the book :)

What about The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp ?

I have the ebook since last year, and I actually really want to read it, but end up picking something else, for whatever reason.

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if you guys agree to the idea of putting a limit on the amount of suggestions for the BOTM. We already have 15 book suggestions (which is great of course, thank you!), but I'm afraid the poll will be a bit too long if you need to choose between, let's say, 20+ books.
So how about a maximum of 20 book suggestions? That way you and other voters won't get overwhelmed when voting on the BOTM :)
If you would prefer another maximum of, for example, 15 books, let me know!

message 33: by Celia (last edited Apr 13, 2017 06:14AM) (new)

Celia (cinbread19) Here's my feelings on your question Ayla

Take as many suggestions as you can through Apr 23 (cut off date)
and then let us vote on the 6 with the highest number of recommendations

If you get a lot that are tied, (like 16 books with 1 vote each), have us vote on the ones with the highest goodreads ratings.

To help narrow suggestions, you might want to select a theme or genre or some criteria for the month.

Thanks for doing this.

Those are some great tips!
I think I'll take a look at the ones with the highest goodreads ratings, since most of the books have only been suggested once here.
The theme/genre a month is also a very good idea! I think we can start using this for the BOTM suggestions June, since May suggestions has already started.

You're welcome! I really enjoy doing this as well, I'm looking forward to do a monthly readalong with all of you :)

Palash (naikon) | 32 comments Hi Ayla,
For narrowing down books a little, you can make a rule that 1 person can nominate one book and/or recommend one book nominated by others. One person cannot recommend more than one books. That way recommendation of many books by a single member will stop. And as mentioned earlier in case of tie in number of recommendations, you can look at total rating and average rating of the book.

Thank you for these tips!
I think I'll pick 6 recommended books for this month to choose from, based on the highest average ratings. Everyone can vote on one of these 6 books in the poll that will be created.

Starting next month, I'll try to pick a theme and everyone can nominate one book (that fits the theme) and/or recommend one book nominated by others, in the thread of BOTM June suggestions. And, indeed, one person cannot recommend more than one book.
Again, there will be chosen 6 books for the poll, based on highest average ratings. The book with most votes in the poll, will become the BOTM :)

So, I made a list with all of your recommendations and counted the times someone was enthusiast about it as well, in this thread. After that I narrowed the selection further down to 6 books, based on average GoodReads ratings.

The selection is now:
1. The Book Thief (5 recs., rating: 4.36)
2. The Girl On The Train (3 recs., rating: 3.88)
3. Six of Crows (2 recs., rating: 4.46)
4. HP Sorcerer's Stone (2 recs., rating: 4.44)
5. Cinder (2 recs., rating: 4.15)
6. Catch-22 (2 recs., rating: 3.98)

Of course everyone can go on suggesting and recommending books, till the 23th of April!

Haha. I have heard that those books are awesome. I have read Mistborn so I know how good Sanderson is. The only reason I havent read them yet is because 10 books are planned in series and only 2 have been released. It will take around 30-40 years to get all the books of series. Though, I will start this series once third book comes out.

Remember only two days left to post your suggestion for the BOTM May!
You can also recommend a book that has already been mentioned, this will give it a higher chance to eventually end up in the poll :)
