Looks like they're going with a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe with this trailer. I'm okay with that.

I can't stand Led Zeppelin, but this song is perfect for the trailer. Also, Jack Black made it tolerable for me in School of Rock.

A few years ago at a work party the question of personal theme/ entrance songs came up, and I picked Led Zeppelin "Immigrant Song". I was a northerner working in the south, so besides sounding cool, I thought it made sense.

I have no idea why I thought this movie was going to be about Thor and Bruce Banner on a road trip through the American southwest, but I am hoping someday I still get that movie.

It looks like pretty much all the Marvel trailers, but "We know each other! He's a friend from work!" has me hopeful.

I enjoyed the first Thor for its smaller stakes and sense of humor, and disliked the second for its lack of the same.

Wait, what? Thor: The Dark World is hilarious in spots.

-- when people are teleporting everywhere at the end and they call out each other's names - "Jane!" "Darcy!" "Mew-mew!"

-- Selvig's... well, everything. His naked freak out, his explanation using the shoe, his reaction when Thor returns, "Is Loki with you?" "My brother is dead." "Oh thank god! I mean, I'm so sorry."

...plus lots of silly sight gags (the bubble of no rain) and humorous exchanges ("This is my intern's intern").

This trailer is Disney's most-watched in the 24 hours since it dropped. I'm not surprised, as it is a nearly perfect trailer. Although to beat out Star Wars is pretty impressive.

Trailer looks awesome, there's no doubting it and I think what Marvel are doing with the MCU is good too - Pairing up Iron-man with Spider-man because on the screen Spider-man isn't as popular compared to his numerous comics. Now they're pushing World War Hulk into Thor which brings those two together.

Then you've got the part after the Dr. Strange credits.
It's amazing that they've managed to keep the same actors this long and none of them have left the cast.

The trailer does look awesome! My favorite part was Thor: "I know him! We're friends from work!" LOL

I wish they had kept the full name from the comics, which as I recall was "Ragnarok and Roll." Especially with the Led Zep music.

I think the biggest reason for this is that Sony has completely mismanaged the rights to Spider-man. Disney would probably have done a much better job judging by the their track record on the other films.

All signs point to "Yes".

They're being really faithful to the look of the comics, from Hela's hat to Hulk's armor, and the stand at the bridge is what Skurge is known for. It's probably the only thing he's known for, really.

I was referring to the latest ad in that campaign (about the greatest sport on Earth) featuring Chris "Thor" Hemsworth.

You're right, it's pretty bad. He's okay when he does one or two words, but the sentences trip him up.

Whenever I watch the Walking Dead, at least once every show one of the actors will say something in a way no American would, and it's usually a result of stringing a sentence together. The guy who plays Jesus is best, but even he gets tripped up now and again. The most egregious was Andrew Lincoln talking about driving a guy out of town and he says something like, "He'll be 25 miles away." Which is exactly where a British person would place the emphasis, whereas a USan would hit the last word hardest.

I was going to write a PSA to all British actors doing generic American Southern accents, to the tune of "just dial it down a notch, and you'll be good."

The best one on TV right now is Cas Anvar's (Canadian, I realize) on The Expanse.

Another positive sign: It looks like the run time is going to be a trim 100 minutes. That indicates a good pace and little studio-forced filler.

Saw it this afternoon. Marvel has another winner on its hands. I wouldn't be surprised if people call this their favorite Thor movie.

I expected it to be humorous, but I was surprised at how often it was genuinely laugh-out-loud funny. Across the board it is pitch-perfect, from beginning to end. (The stinger is a hoot, too.) Chris Hemsworth really gets to cut loose on the humor, as do Anthony Hopkins and Mark Ruffalo. Jeff Goldblum crushes it. Once again, Tom Hiddleston is the MCU MVP.

For long-time Marvelites, and especially Thor and Hulk fans, there are shout-outs to the comics everywhere. Including Beta Ray Bill, Bi-Beast and Frog Thor.

Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost are two of the writers, and they are one of my favorite teams in the Marvel comics. They're the ones who penned the superb X-23: Innocence Lost graphic novel, which was used so effectively in Logan earlier this year. They know how to switch between humor and drama expertly, and everyone was firing on all cylinders for this story.

Spoilers for after you've seen the movie:

(view spoiler)[One of my favorite bits was the interaction with Korg, the Blue Rock Guy (voiced by director Taka Watiti), in the gladiatorial arena staging area. Especially when he explains to Thor about how all the previous champions have been killed by Hulk (although Thor doesn't know it's Hulk yet, leading to the scene from the trailer).

Thor: I am going to defeat this champion and win my freedom!
Korg: [brightly] That's exactly what Doug said! [Sorrowfully] Doug's dead now.
Thor: I will not be like Doug. [storms off]
Korg: See you later, New Doug.

I also loved when Thor was in the chair and being introduced to the battle arena of Sakaar. It's basically a Disney ride and they even play a classic tune, like "It's A Small World" or something, but I can't recall offhand what it is. There are lots of little funny touches like that throughout the film.

ETA: it's the song "Pure Imagination" from the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Which is even better, given how the "ride" is shot.

Super double spoilers:(view spoiler)[I was really surprised that the Warriors Three were killed, and so effortlessly, by Hela. Although Hogun does get a cool send-off. Yes, your super double spoiler was the one thing in the movie that felt a little ... questionable? to me.

I saw it last night. It was good dumb fun. The Thor movies have never been my favorites but this one was easily the best one. I give it 3-1/2 thumbs up.

I could go on and on about how they ripped comics canon to bits, but mostly they told a rollicking story. Still peeved about Skurge though. They got the essence of Loki in the Surtur saga and the idea if not the outcome of that series, but Skurge is nothing like the craven guy in this movie.

As I've mentioned in other threads about the MCU, I just view it as another alternate universe in the Marvel multiverse. Some things will be the same, some different. I think overall they've done a spectacular job.

Edit: turns out the MCU has an official designation of Earth-199999, according to All-New Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: A to Z, Vol. 5. So there you go.

We caught it not long after it came out, then took my grandson to see it for his seventeenth birthday. Maybe just a wee bit heavy on the humor at times, but overall an exceptional production. One of those Marvel flicks I can see myself watching repeatedly.

For a while it’s been obvious that Tom Hiddleson’s Loki has been turning into the equivalent of a WWE superstar, a heel whose popularity threatens to reach the point where the audiences will cheer him regardless of his villainy. That being the case, I’ve been wondering how Disney would handle this. We saw how they dealt with the problem in the second Thor flick, but that ending felt somewhat forced to me. Here in Ragnarok they’ve made the rivalry more believable, despite all the humor (which for me pulled some audience love away from Loki and gave it back to Thor), by showcasing their dynamic with the play at the start of the film, that Loki is in may ways jealous of Thor, of all the opprobrium Odin’s natural born son receives from the Asgardian citizenry. (Which also serves as a strong motivator for his actions later on.)

Will be interesting to see, by the time we get to Infinity War, what role Loki will end up playing.

The only Marvel film I actively dislike is Iron Man 3. Thor 3 is definitely one of the most fun despite all the death. Which is a weird thing to say.

My son and I enjoyed it. We decided that we really liked the all the Thor movies.

Same here. I don’t understand all the hate Thor: The Dark World gets. That’s a solid story which really fleshes out the relationship dynamics between Loki and Thor, with plenty of humor and action. The first one is the weakest for me, and it’s still really good.

Hulk liked movie. Hulk should always talk this much. Hulk smash screenwriter that not write more lines for Hulk.

IMO its far and away the funnest comic book movie this year and only trails Logan in terms of being the best.

Its been a good year for comic book movies. Haven't seen Homecoming (no interest in seeing yet another teen Spidey movie reboot) but otherwise the comic movies this year were all good.

Also if you haven't seen the Avengers: Infinity War trailer yet it gives some very big hints what happens after the end credits scene of Thor where the massive ships shows up.

Thor is seen meeting a certain team of Guardians saying "Who the hell are you guys?" Pretty obvious that the Guardians entry point to the Avengers movie will be rescuing Thor and bringing him to Earth.
