Linda wrote: "Reading Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders and listening to Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance"Curious to hear your thoughts on Hillbilly Elegy! I started it last semester then had to put it aside, but I hope to get back to it soon. Vance's story was fascinating, but I felt conflicted at times, and I think that was because he seemed (perhaps inadvertently?) conflicted at times.

Hi Tiffany - I am intrigued by Vance's story. It really is a personal memoir with quotes from academic studies thrown in. There is the 'True Confessions' aspect as he relates the troubled relationship with his mother combined with the sociological view on the declining (lower) middle class. I could relate to so much of it and know that our students probably could also. I haven't quite finished it but my take-away so far is the importance of encouraging our young people to 'reach for the stars'.

I'm rereading (and listening to) Brene Brown's Rising Strong. I also finished Karen White's The Night the Lights Went Out a few weeks ago. If you want a good summer read, check it out!
Just finished Greg Iles's third book in the trilogy, Natchez Burning, The Bone Tree and Mississippi Blood. Iles is a southern writer that holds your attention with his DARK, fast paced thriller that explores race, violence and southern traditions. I like his writings but sometimes I have to put it down to take a breath.
Just finishing John Sandford's Golden Prey. Fun Summer read. Fast pace, great characters and engaging plot.
I just finished reading a young adult title "Everything, Everything" by Nicola Yoon. I recommend to the Early College students. The book is a very fast read and has an interesting plot twist.

Hello Rachel - Thank you for providing a link to your book in OverDrive. I will try to do the same in the future so that everyone may enjoyreding or listening on OverDrive.
I am listening to the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo on Tri-County's OverDrive site https://tricountycc.overdrive.com/This book is an amusing perspective into another culture, one where you thank a shirt for protecting your body before you discard it. It covers the basic prinicples of removing from your life clothes or objects which you no longer need.
Finished over the weekend a fast paced book The Fix by David Baldacci . It took me from my Brasstown porch to Washington DC and into an FBI investigation of an urgent high stakes terrorist group. Fun page turner. Great Summer Read. I am reading a much anticipated treasure , The Weight of this World by a North Carolina author David Joy. He also wrote Where all Light Tends to Go one of my many all time favorites.
