What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Read this horror book mid/late 80s. Someone finds a book. Book is somehow evil/possessed/demonic. Can't remember if pages are blank and are written on as it is read, feeding off the reader and/or blood. My memory is so vague, sorry, but I'm curious what this was. Pages described as leathery, whispery. Anyway, someone finds or is given this book and it's bad news for the entire household.

Jade, is this book for young adults (teens) or older adults?

Do you remember any of the human characters? Or the location/setting (e.g., library)?

I don't believe it was a YA book...probably adult. I want to say it was a family with at least one pre-teen boy child in it. I feel the boy got his hands on this book and it was affecting him, perhaps had been in the hands of his father first. I want to say at one point blood was absorbed by the book somehow.

I'm not sure if the evil book had words, or was blank and would only provide messages when viewed by it's holder. That may have been part of it, but I might be confusing a different story there.

Also, I think this was a paperback, but somehow the cover was made to look or feel like the evil book...either by texture or just appearance.

The book is the Necronomicon of HP Lovecraft Fame. But I can't remember the title or the author.

Nope and nope.
This book may have had a red cover. I want to say it was in the hands of a child who would use it like a diary and the book would act on the bad thoughts written in it/project evil outward onto others/make bad things happen. Probably a book more along the lines of something by William W. Johnstone.

No problem!!! I remember reading this book when it came out in 1988. I was a huge fan of John Byrne's art during his Marvel comics days. I loved it. Well, I still have this book, and when you started describing it, I knew it had to be the one!!! You're very welcome!!!
