Summer of Night

Books like these .. centered around children

I have resently begun re-reading "Summer of Night" by Dan Simmons and discovered how I like the way it sees the world and horrors from the perspective of kids. I then remembered that it further reminded me of "IT" and "Stand by me" by Stephen King which I also loved.
Now I wonder if someone can suggest similar books?

Hi, I have read Summer of Night and it was good book. I can recommend Enders Game by Orson Scott Card, there are kids; but in space; and giant bugs instead of giant worms. Also Ender is something like Duane; a smart kid doing incredible things.
