Countdown to start of Tower Teams!

Tower Team Guidelines

For reading books:
Books between 100 and 160 pages (100 pages or 25,000 words is the minimum) = 5 points
Books between 161 pages and 350 pages = 20 points
Books between 351 and 500 pages = 40 points
Books between 501 and 650 pages = 60 points
Books between 651 and 800 pages = 80 points
Books between 801 and 900 pages = 100 points
Books over 901 pages = 130 points

For current BOM (Book of the Month) discussions
Writing a day's worth of discussion questions = 40 points
Participating in a current BOM (participating in discussion) = 20 points

NOTE: We will accept one team member per book per team for writing a days DQs. If, by three days prior to the BOM starting, we don't have enough volunteers to write all DQs, then we will let more than one team member per team write questions. If we have more people than days sign up (prior to 3 days before start date) we will randomise the volunteers to determine those who can write DQs

RULES
◈ Books must be started after the start date of the challenge to count towards the challenge

◈ Books must be />100 pages. NOTE: This number is lower than our other team challenges!
For page number questions, please check with your captain who can ask in the Captains group for verification.

◈ Audio books are allowed. (For page numbers, use the "default" GR book page numbers.)

◈ No graphic novels. (Sorry.)

◈ Boxed sets are not considered as "one book" and need to be shelved as separate books

◈ No little children's books less than 25,000 words.ArBookFind is a great site to double check. If in doubt, ask your captain.

◈ Any genre counts.

◈ Any book in any language will count, as long as it meets the criteria.

◈ "Re-reads" will be allowed, if it has been six months since you have read the book. This includes listening to the audio version, if you've already read the book.

TIPS:
First and foremost, read what you want to read. The key to Tower Teams success is a team reading as much as possible, so definitely enjoy what you are reading!

That said, IF there is a choice between a few next books:

- Try to stay at the low end of each page range bracket to earn the most points per page. In other words, books that are in the following ranges will give you the best bang for the book:

161 - 200 pages
351 - 400 pages
501 - 550 pages
651 - 700 pages
801 - 850 pages
901 - 1000 pages -- (the highest point per page range)

- Books that are in the 100 - 160 page range don't garner as many points per page, but if you like reading a bunch of many various titles - go for it! Whatever keeps you CONSTANTLY reading ;)

- I encourage MF-ers to participate in as many of the BOMs as possible. Even if one of us isn't selected to do the questions for a day, participating in the discussion earns the team an additional 20 points for that book.

Reminder: To earn the BOM points for a book, you must respond to at least 3 sets of DQ's.

It's relieving to hear that Wobble was intense because I don't think I can do intense on this round :P I'm finishing a class for work this coming month and my husband and I are in the process of looking for a house in Southern California, so things are busy as is.

Hello, team! I'm Kerri and this will be my third team challenge. As Danielle mentioned, they are kind of addicting...

I currently live in New Mexico, having recently moved from Ohio. I loooooove it. Mostly because I hate being cold. I work as a medical lab technician in the local hospital in the microbiology department. Basically, I play with bacteria all day :) My interests beyond reading are music, hiking, trivia, and catching up on the newest episodes of MST3K. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to playing with you all!

@Samantha - My husband and I are in the house hunting process, as well! Though I'm sure it'll be more of a challenge in Southern Cali as opposed to middle-of-nowhere New Mexico, lol. Good luck in your search!

Hi Emily! I love these team challenges too. Please don't worry about your reading rate - our team has a very diverse reading rate range so we'll be good. The main thing is to pick books you love to read (with perhaps an occasional BOM thrown in) and have fun chatting with the team :)

@ Kerri and Danielle - Thank you for the well wishes :) We're going to need it. We're trying to keep it affordable, but to get a 3 bedroom house in a decent neighborhood is at the minimum $450,000 :/ Back at home (Iowa), you'd get the same house for half the price.


Just FYI, I totally have A Court of Wings and Ruin on pre-order, which will be coming in the mail between May 8th-12th. If the challenge allows, I'm up for a buddy read of the first two books if anyone wants to do that :) I've already read them, but I've been wanting to read them again before the third book.

@ Ivy - It's a pretty awesome job! Microbiology is my favorite section in the lab. It's like playing detective to see what bug might be making someone sick. I had a lot of Bio classes in college and it's always been one of my favorite subjects :)

@ Teddie - Yeah, I just couldn't handle it, lol. I grew up in the military, so I've lived in all kinds of different climates, but lived in Ohio for a large portion of my life. I still didn't get used to the cold! I was made for warm weather.

Welcome all the team mates for whom this is their first challenge! I agree that TT is a way to ease oneself gently into the world of team challenges. WOBBLE was really intense, this is much easier.

@ Kerri I really love my bio classes, it's just the chemistry classes that are a drag. I have to take organic next semester and I'm definitely not ready.

@Emily It's not my favorite place in the world, but I've lived here for about 13 years now. Happy to read with you as well!

@Samantha I really want to read the last book in the series but I don't think I can suffer through the first and second again. I loved A Court of Roses and Thorns but the second book was disappointing to me. I have reviews but they are rather spoilery. I understand why lots of people love both, though. ^^

@everyone I also look forward to reading with all of you. What's everyone's favorite genres? I personally love fantasy. I am trying to move away from young adult recently. The covers always appeal to me, but the content is not high quality enough. For the challenge I'm going to start with Brandon Sanderson.

@ivy: I have a lot of favorite genres. it's hard for me to pick one. I'm currently ready NYPD red 4 for a different challenge. im.not sure what I'll be reading first for the challenge.

Romance, in many a sub-genre and Fantasy are my favourite genres.

I don't read a lot of YA, but I understand the cover love, some do have some great covers.

I really enjoy Brandon Sanderson's books. Have you read him before? Which book are you planning on reading?

I'm not much of a planner on what I going to read. I just go with what I'm feeling like at the time. Unless there's a new release in a particular month and I'll know I want to read right away.

@Ivy: I read a bit of everything, but especially like fantasy, mystery, and sci fi. I'm looking forward to reading some Sanderson and other longer books for this challenge, as recent challenges needed titles read, and page counts didn't matter.

@Nancy: this is my second Tower Teams - I also like the UNO challenge and did last summer's Wobble extravaganza :)

@Ivy Personally, I'm so excited for the new book of Renee Ahdieh, Flame in the mist ! It will be one of the first books I'm going to read!

Though like @Danielle I don't really plan what I read, I'm going with what I feel like reading. :)

@Ivy - if you want to just read the third book together, we can do that :P I know everyone has a different opinion on books and I respect that :) I'm also just branching out into adult fantasy and Brandon Sanderson is a great place to start! I've read the first two books in both the Mistborn series and the Stormlight Archive. The Stormlight archive is becoming my favorite fantasy series of all time, right up there with Harry Potter :)
