This is my first Nathan Hill book. Although, his name seems fairly familiar. Whenever I read a book I have to wonder how much of what was written was actually an autobiography and how much was complete fiction, especially when the main character is a writer. Even more so, when the story we're reading is the story the character is trying to write and maybe does write. I think it was an interesting meta-mechanic of the story, but exposes that feeling in authors to be critically damming of their own work. So you get to experience first hand how awkward it is to write a book for an author and, hey, it's this book. Probably my favorite part.
Would I read another of Nathan Hill's book. Yes, I would. Despite the experience I had with this book I did appreciate the depth and color he put into the written word and the stream of consciousness "honest" talk. I would hope that he'd keep that up, even though, it is difficult to do and in most cases self-deprecating.
Hmmmm . . . just checked, I thought, but I wasn't sure that this is his only book. I will have to see what else he releases. After reading The Nix, while I enjoyed it, he will not be an insta-read for me. However, I have a few insta-read authors that I wonder why I keep them in that category because I tend to find a lot of fault in their books, but, we shall see!
