Shinobu sat on one of the chairs leaning against the wall, watching the chaos happening just a few feet in front of him, near the opposite wall, with raised eyebrows. Earlier, a visitor (a friend, he'd assumed) had come to visit a few inmates whom he did not care enough about to research their names. It had been going well, at first; Shin had remained on the same seat and supervised the visit silently. About 15 minutes in, however, the visitor was starting to look uncomfortable, and the inmates were intimidating them quite a bit with their teasing, he could tell. He had considerately lead the visitor out then, and when he had returned, had discovered that a fight had broke out between the inmates. It was not an overly violent fight, but it did involve violence, and was probably serious enough that Shin reckoned he ought to interfere. However, since Shin didn't recall any rule that stated he must stop inmate fights, and because he didn't want to get hurt himself, he felt no obligation to do so, and so watched the fighting delicately from where he sat. He figured another guard would come in soon enough and stop it; he didn't have to be the one to do it.
Kaelan had gone to the visitation room since her fathers were visiting that day but when she entered the general area, she heard the familiar sounds of people brawling. Scowling at the idiocy of some of these inmates, she had headed straight over to the location the noise came from. She forcefully entered the room, took a good look around the room to assess the situation before she confronted the inmates that were fighting. They were given the elite privilege to have family or friends visit and yet they squander it by fighting amongst themselves. She had easily dispelled their quarrelling with a few simple moves that left them both on the ground unmoving. Temporary paralyzes, nothing deadly, she didn't want her visitation privileges to be revoked. She clapped her hands together to whip them off before she crossed them over her chest, staring down... well staring up anyone that dared tried to do anything. She was a short thing, looking like she couldn't take a hit but unfortunately for everyone who has ever crossed her, she can.
She then turned around to the guard on duty, scowling. It wasn't intimidating in the least, not with her small frame and cute face. She had marched over and stood in front of Shin, arms over her chest still. "What do you think you are doing?" she demanded, her voice loud and firm. "There were two inmates fighting in front of you and you did nothing to stop them," she had informed him as if he didn't already know. He was a guard, he was supposed to keep the inmates in line, that was his job. What kind of authority figure was he?

Shinobu watched the new intruder with an intrigued and curious look in his eyes. His eyes followed her as she made her way to the inmates and for a split second he was almost worried; this was a little girl walking up to violent prisoners, after all. But his worries quickly evaporated, instead replaced with surprise, when the girl effortlessly knocked all of them out. He opened his mouth, as if to say something, but saw her cross her arms and closed it again. He said nothing, even as she made her way to where he sat, but his eyes did not hold their usual glassy, vacant look. They were filled with interest and a faint hint of admiration, though Shinbou did his best to hide this and act apathetic to her. He listened to her snaps at him with an air of calmness. If she had been some tall guard, he would have been intimated, and so nervous that he'd barely have been able to get a word out. But looking at Kaelan, all he could see was a rather cute looking little girl with a big attitude, even if she did have super strength. And so, naturally, he felt no fear from her, nor intimidation. He tilted his head to the side, matching her gaze with his, and replied evenly but awkwardly with, "I'm... sitting..?" As for her second statement, he said nothing in return; it was true, and he didn't have more to say.
Kaelan scowled, which really could be called a pout. Her face and build portrayed her attitude and abilities. She was just as contradictive of a person as this place was to a normal prison. "I can see that," she told him. Kaelan was an individual that was blunt and always spoke her mind even if it could lead to conflict. "I am asking why you are sitting instead of on your feet and doing your job," she told him. She clearly was not planning on moving anytime soon until she had properly scolded this individual for slacking on the job.
She huffed out a sharp breath, "what's done has been done," she stated, knowing if she worked herself up she would get angry and then she'd lose control of herself. She didn't want that since she could tell that she could completely wreak this guy. She wasn't an unfair woman, she believed in second chances- occasionally.
"Have you gone over the handbook?" she had demanded from the guard. She knew there was one and she had read it. She hadn't agreed with a lot of what it said, much of it was complete bullshit if she was to be quite honest. However, important things like maintaining the safety of the prison were mandatory in her mind.
"If not, I can give you a sheet of specific principals you should follow. This may be a prison but not everyone here is a cold-blooded killer. Comfortable living and maintaining the discipline of inmates is a must," she lectured.
"If you can't break up a fight, get someone who can or regulate it so no one gets severely injured," she added. She was a trainer so fighting wasn't a no-no to her but there had to be rules.

Shinobu, if he had thought her cute at first in any way, still thought her appearance as such, but had lost the feeling with her personality. He hated anything that was trouble and dragged on; he had always been someone who kept to himself and liked blissful and peaceful silence and loneliness, but Kaelan -he knew right away- wasn't going to give him any of that. He wished she would simply ignore him like everyone else did. "I've read the handbook," he stated calmly and shortly (it was incredibly rare to get any sort of long reply from Shin; his responses were always short, vague, and rarely explained or told much about himself). That was an understatement. He had completely memorized the handbook; each and every rule and principle within it without fail. He would go to any length to avoid trouble, but it seemed with Kaelan, this meant nothing, and he almost felt betrayed by the thick handbook, although of course, it could do no such thing.
Kaelan nodded, her expression portraying her feeling quite effectively. She clearly looked pleased with the fact he had done at least that much. She was acutely aware of the fact that many people hated looking at anything like handbooks. She wasn't a textbook type of person either but she was diligent when it came to certain things. Knowing the do's and don'ts were essential in this type of place. There was a bunch of troublemakers here and she had to make sure they were following the rules and moral code of this sort of place. She knew it had to be different than those in the outside world hence why she did a little research. Her dedication was unusual.
"Very good," she complimented, those it didn't really sound like one yet clearly was one. The contradictions just seem to continue. "Then you are very well aware of the fact that guards need to cease any inappropriate behaviour, especially fighting between inmates before it escalates. I've heard it can escalate until someone dies," she stated, "if that occurs, I'd imagine the paperwork one must fill out would be troublesome."
She would hate to do such paperwork. Not a book-smart type of person and would rather skip any sort of thing. She'd imagine that some people would share her ideology.
"It's your duty to do that so make sure you do it next time. I won't always be around," she stated and then paused for a moment, brows furrowed as she checked him over. She knew that first appearance could be misleading so she didn't want to assume anything at first. However, now she was a bit concerned. She had a protective nature that came clearly into play in her development since childhood. She'd been protecting her older brothers for years and he did... remind her of them.
"Are you able to handle dealing with inmates?"
He wouldn't be a guard otherwise but she thought she should ask anyway. If he couldn't then she was scolding him for a reason that was out of his control and she'd apologize.

Shin raised an eyebrow at her expression, which appeared rather pleased, and which he couldn't comprehend, because it was directed at him. He didn't understand why she could possibly be pleased with him, as no one ever was, and after some consideration, concluded that she must actually be angry, and was putting on the face because she didn't wish to ruin her amiable disposition. He didn't blame her, of course. He would be angry at himself too if he were in her place. This thought, however, was erased from his mind in an instant when she complimented him (though it didn't really sound like one, he supposed), and a look of surprise flashed across his face. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously at her, but didn't thank her for the compliment, because he didn't (despite wishing he did) think it actually was one, just that she was glad he had done what she wanted him to.
He listened to her short lecture patiently, with a calm look, although this became a tense look instead when she asked him if he was capable of dealing with inmates. Shin knew perfectly well that he couldn't. If he had attempted to stop that earlier fight, he probably would've emerged with a few broken bones. He wasn't a fighter at all, and had never been in so much as a playful child's fight let alone a serious fight. He doubted he'd even thrown a punch in his entire lifetime.
He bit his inner cheek and looked away, avoiding her gaze, and said nothing in reply, which would probably be pretty rude if it weren't for the clear anxiety written over his features.
Kaelan's gaze had not left Shin's for a moment while she waiting for his reply to her very important question. She didn't think Nanba would hire someone, especially a guard, that was incapable of handling these worldly villains. It was frankly dangerous and idiotic.
The man didn't give her a reply by his facial reaction to her question and even avoiding her gaze told her well enough. She felt extremely guilty for going off at him. Her short temper was something to blame but Kaelan was a prideful woman that fortunately owed up to her mistakes.
She had then suddenly closed the distance between them to grasp his hand with both of her's. Small hands but they were shocking, if not disturbingly, strong though she wasn't using enough to hurt him. Her expression was just as intense as her attitude, determined and earnest. "Please accept my apology. I had no right to chew you out without knowing the situation. I hope you can forgive me," she said and didn't look like she would take no for an answer, no matter how long it took for her to get forgiveness. In her mind, what she had done was unforgivable. "You can even hit me if need be," she added sincerely. No blow would be too hard for the unfair treatment she'd given him.

Shin, if anything, was expecting a harsh scolding, either for his incompetence, or his rude attitude towards her. He was tense and bracing himself for one, and therefore couldn't hide his astonishment when instead, he felt warm hands enclose around his. For probably the first time since they'd met, Shin turned to face her and looked directly into her eyes, attempting to read her thoughts, and clear surprise written in his. But that wasn't all. Kaelan, it would seem, was full of surprises. A moment later he was being faced with a sincere apology, an apology that even he, with his cynical, distrustful nature, couldn't write off as anything but genuine. This he could confirm thanks to her grip, which wasn't exactly gentle, it was quite strong actually, but it got her emotions across to him, which wasn't an easy thing to do. He didn't recall ever having been apologized to in his life, and consequently, didn't have the slightest idea how to respond. His cheeks weren't corresponding to his wishes either; he could feel them redden as he looked away. "I-it's fine.." He stammered out at last.
Kaelan shook her head, that would not be enough. It was definitely not fine. Acting oblivious to his reaction to her straightforwardness, she continued head first into this. She wouldn't be letting this go. For various reasons. Not only was she in the wrong and wished to make up for it, she was also very concerned about the fact he seemed to be very alone. If they knew he was incapable of dealing with volatile inmates, then they should have issued him with a buddy to be the brawn or something. She had heard such high praises for this prison yet they seemed to be incompetent in various areas. That just wouldn't do for someone like Kaelan.
"You must request for an assistant or something," she told him, refusing to let go of his hand just yet. She wanted his full attention and would receive such until she finished. "You could be injured on one of your shifts if you're not careful," she said, freeing one of her hands to tap her chin, pondering. Her small and odd eyebrows furrowed as she did. Her eyes then lit up with some sort of realization and she finally freed his hand and put her own on her hips. She looked quite proud as she said the next thing.
"How 'bout this. Until you get a buddy or whatever, I will go on shifts with you to take care of aggressive troublemakers? That way, I will pay my debt for acting so unfairly to you and you won't have to disregard the rules in order to protect yourself," she declared, thinking it quite clever. If it would work or not, her being an inmate and all, was questionable. That fact didn't seem to phase her in the least.
"Sound good?" she asked, grinning brightly and held out her hand for him to shake on it.
"It's Kaelan, by the way, Kaelan Cypher."

Shinobu's eyes widened at her first suggestion, visible panic on his features. It sounded like a terrible idea to him, for many reasons. Firstly was the fact that he barely spoke with anyone in the prison, and he doubted that would improve with an assistant. Secondly, he imagined no one wanted to speak with him anyways (except Kaelan, it would seem, who stubbornly refused to leave him alone), and if anyone did, the feeling wouldn't remain long. And lastly was because he modestly had little to no idea conversing with others, and knew he would likely be in a panicked state for the whole while. He opened his mouth to bluntly refuse her offer, but before he could, she had yet another suggestion, one that surprised Shin. She was offering to stay with him, wasn't she? Why that was, Shinobu couldn't fathom at all. He stared at her with wide eyes as if she were some sort of foreign alien species for some moments, the narrowed his eyes suspiciously and finally spoke: "You're.. a prisoner, aren't you? I thought.. that prisoners weren't allowed to roam freely.."
He didn't think she owed him any debt, but he said nothing of it. He didn't yet take her hand either, fearing that if were, she might take it as his agreeing with her plan, which he hadn't done. Yet. He figured he'd shake hands with after he'd decided, to stay on the safe side. He also didn't respond with his own name, not because he lacked manners, but because he was unsure she wanted to know.
Kaelan didn't seem to be phased at all by his clear disdain for the entire suggestion. She couldn't and didn't bother to fathom why he would have an issue with it. It was a safety risk. In this sort of place, one cannot be too careful since it could end with someone's death. The worst of the worst were placed here, or people who regular prisons just couldn't detain properly. Thus, she promptly ignored his clear, visual rejection of everything she was saying.
Kaelan nodded, "I am," she confirmed sternly and scowled a bit for a moment. She knew she should have controlled herself but that didn't mean she liked being caged up like this any less. She had students to train. Nothing she could do about it now, however, she had to pay for her crimes even though, they sort of [totally] deserved it. "A short sentence compared to most and the only reason I am kept here is due to my unusual body," she stated with a shrug. "They let me go around as long as I'm accompanied by a guard of some sort so I don't think it will be an issue," she stated simply with a grin.
Her hand still remained in the air, as unrelenting as her personality suggested. "So what do you say...." she drifted off, hoping he'd input his name into space. It would be weird to continue some sort of partnership without knowing his name. Either way, it would be nice to know.
She won't be taking no as an answer, that much was for sure but she had other ideas in the case no one was assigned to assist him. She could always teach him how to defend himself or diffuse situations. She wasn't a trainer for nothing.

Shinobu raised a brow delicately when she straight forwardly admitted, that she was a prisoner, as if inquiring why she had suggested anything at all. His inquiry was answered by her a few moments later however, and he couldn't help but stare at her body when she mentioned that that was the reason for her detainment. It looked ordinary enough to him, but he supposed it had more to do with her strength, which certainly didn't match her looks. He pried his eyes away from her body and looked away thoughtfully, seeming to be considering the idea. Naturally, if he were following his own desires, and paying some thought to his nerves, he would have refused the offer. But what would happen if he did say no? He worried she might take his situation to a higher authority, and what then? He imagined he could very well lose his job at Nanba, and that was the one thing that he was determined not to lose; he had nowhere else to go. Reluctantly, he reached out and clasped his hand over hers, shaking it hesitantly, but long enough to assert that he had likely agreed with her plan.
".. Shinobu." He murmured. "Shinobu Habiki."
Kaelan didn't go on about her little 'ability'. Most people chalked it up to super strength, though it was a bit more complex and self-destructive. If he didn't ask then she felt no need to go into it. It didn't matter. She waited patiently for his decision and was prepared to persuade him if he declined. Fortunately, she didn't need to. She had been very glad about it. She wasn't too good at persuasion though, or words. It wasn't a complete shocker when people became angered at her. She didn't have a way with words.
"Brilliant," she chirped cheerfully, glad he had agreed. It was some weight off her shoulders. Mainly because she was concerned for this guy's safety.
"It's nice to meet you Shinobu," Kae told him, "can I call you Shin?" she asked. It would be easier to say and at this point, she viewed them as friends.
((wrap up flashback..?))

Shin hesitated before replying, but nonetheless nodded once at her. "It's nice to meet you too, Kaelan." A pause, then he corrected, "... Kae."((Yeppers))
Shin walked quickly to the visitation room, nearly jogging. The very instant he set foot inside the room, he glanced around anxiously for the familiar figure of his short companion. He vividly recalled the room from their first meeting, albeit now it was a different; back then he had come here with some (little, but some) will of his own, but now, he was here purely because of Kaelan, to get her out of whatever problem she had gotten herself into. Shin simply couldn't fathom how someone so small could constantly get themselves into situations so big. It confused him. Plus, Shin despised any sort of trouble, be it big or little; he did not discriminate. If it weren't for his having convinced himself that he must save Kalelan from getting her sentence prolonged once again, he would have never come. He let out a quiet sigh and walked further inside, eyes alert for any sign of Kae.
((ahhhh! Yes! What a beautiful start to a gorgeous friendship!))
The one thing Kaelan could not forgive and would never in her life accept was allowing anyone to say anything bad about her brothers. She firmly believed that as a child and it would not change an ounce as an adult. She may be in prison, but that wouldn't stop her from extending her sentence if it meant punishing bullies.
Hence, resulting in the current situation that she currently found herself in. It didn't seem too long ago before she'd been in this area doing the very same thing though this time she was starting a conflict instead of ending on.
Today, two of her brothers and father had come to visit. She'd been excitingly telling Shin about it all week after getting the letter. She got ready, dressed in her best baggy sweatshirt and leggings before making her way earlier here. She even forewent eating breakfast! Something she never did due to her obsessive love for food.
However, after their visit, as she was leaving, some random inmate made a comment about her brother who happened to be crying again. He was a very delicate person. However, the disgust and mockery she heard and suggested that maybe he should drown in his tears made her short temper snap. No matter how many times she promised Shin to be good, she tended to find herself in these situations. She was currently in the waiting room in the visitation wing, fighting with a rather skilled fighter. Unfortunately for that skilled fighter, she was pissed as all hell and she was not only hitting him with bone-crushing punches and kicks, she was also chucking all sorts of heavy objects at it. If she wasn't so furious and disgusted with the other inmate, she would have been impressed and enjoyed the fight.
It also didn't help that others were either trying to get in on the fight or were injured in an attempt to escape it.

(( XP Thanks!! They do have a nice friendship ^^ ))Shinobu, upon finding the scene, watched the chaos before him with wide eyes. Not because he was surprised -he had been entirely expecting such a scene, it was Kaelan, after all- but more so because there was furniture soaring through the air, and that was quite dangerous indeed. He gracefully dodged a chair that had come crashing down next to him, sighing once again. These days, he was sighing a lot. He felt like he'd aged an entire century, just getting to know Kaelan. Now if it was up to him, he would have loved to turn on his heels and leave the room this instant. Unfortunately for him, the one person who he considered a friend was viciously partaking in this disaster, and he couldn't exactly leave her alone here in fear that she will only further add onto her already fairly long sentence.
Reluctantly, he took a step forward, then another, and a few more till he was at a close enough distance to Kae to touch her if he reached out an arm, but not close enough to get sent flying due to the objects in her arms.
He had been trying to appear calm coming here, but now, anxiety was written plainly all over his face. He frantically waved his hands at Kaelan. "K-kae that's enough, let's stop fighting. You're hurting everyone. Let's calm down, okay?" Fearing she couldn't hear him, he raised his voice slightly to a near whine, and plead. "Kae.."
((^^ It is! It's cute. Ahhh adorable friendships are bessssst))
Kaelan didn't notice Shin enter the room. She was too focused on making this man eat dirt to care. He was losing steam at this point and she knew if she pressured him just a bit longer, he'd show an opening for her to take him down. She began counting it down, ignorant of the intense pain in her shoulder when it dislodged from tearing a door off its hinges. It hadn't stopped her from popping it back in place while kicking for the inmate's head.
By the time she had created some space between them, picking up something she'd thrown and broken earlier to continue pelting the injured inmate who was straining to dodge and block her vicious attacks. However, when Shin touched her arm, she immediately knew and slide away from him. She hadn't realized who it was but her instinct was to create space between them before she got herself injured.
By the time he whined her name, she blinked, a chair leg raised in hand and turned her gaze to look at Shin. "Shin?" she asked, confused, feeling her anger slowly slipping away and the pain from the injuries she got started to seep in. She frowned, "what is it?" she asked, looking unimpressed that he had stopped her just as she was about to finally break the inmate down and teach him his lesson on bullying others. "I'm nearly done here," she told him, dropping the chair leg and went to the exhausted inmate who was bruised and a bit bloody but still shockingly on his feet. It was clear they regretted their decision in making fun of the small woman's family.

(( Agreed X3 ))Shinobu drew back his hand in mild surprise when she back away, relief in his eyes when she finally turned to look at him. He nodded slightly when she said his name, as if to confirm he was indeed Shin, though she already knew that. He was glad to see the anger slowly leave her features, relaxing some, but still tense, since she mentioned not being done yet. Especially when she approached the poor, beaten inmate; his eyes widened in worry, and he hastily made his way over to the two.
Without so much as a "sorry" or even any sort of warning, he suddenly crouched down and scooped Kae up in his arms, swinging her small body over his slim shoulder. He was certain she would struggle some, that was just the sort of girl Kae was; she never gave up without a struggle, but he trusted she wouldn't use her strength, she never did with Shin. Besides, it wasn't the first time he had manhandled her like this, she was surely used to it by now; Shin never gave in to her protests. He held her securely in place and politely bowed at the inmate, "Sorry about her," he muttered curtly in her place, since he knew Kae wouldn't do it, then turned and left the room without waiting for another moment. He wanted to get Kae out quickly before more trouble ensued. He didn't put her down even in the hallway either; he walked a fair distance away for some minutes, and once he was sure he was far enough, he finally stopped abruptly and set Kaelan down on her feet, wordlessly gazing down at her.
Kaelan had gotten very used to being around Shin. It had been challenging to adjust her fighter response especially when he tended to do things that had her wanting to instinctive attack or defend herself. Fortunately, she adapted and trained her body to differentiate him- for the most part. She couldn't develop a hesitation or her fighting techniques would become flawed.
So, before she could reach the inmate when she found him scooping her up, she stiffened for a moment, reminding herself it was baby boy Shin. That didn't mean she didn't clench her teeth and squirm in his grasp, careful to not damage him. He was probably lucky the feeling in her one arm was now gone otherwise she may have escaped this time. Eventually, they were quite a bit down the hall when she stopped struggling and only grumbled. He would probably be one of the few people allowed to treat her like this. It just reminded her of how small and childlike she was and it wasn't a nice feeling. Once he finally put her down, she stood there, an arm over her chest, since she couldn't really move the other one and scowled up at him. "I think that was highly uncalled for," she informed him, though looking back at it, she knew that was wrong but she was frustrated that he got away from telling her brother to die! Just because he was crying?! It made her so mad. Eventually, the stare down caused her to slowly loosen her hold on her anger. "I'm sorry," she relented, not admitting she was completely wrong but apologizing for getting him involved. She knew he hated getting into those kinds of messes.

Shinobu tilted his head to the side ever so slightly when she spoke. "I think that was highly called for," he replied straight forwardly, nothing mocking in his tone. He was used to Kae throwing small tantrums whenever he carried her off from a problem, and knew better than to bluntly argue with her. He wouldn't have even if it weren't the case; it was too much trouble arguing with Kae. He didn't move his gaze from Kaelan, even when she spoke, listening to her quietly. His intention hadn't been to get her to apologize, but he was relieved that she realized her response to the inmate's remarks weren't right, though it may not have been entirely wrong either. He nodded faintly and replied gently with, "You don't have to apologize to me." Then added, "If you really want to apologize, shouldn't you apologize to the prisoners back there?"
He didn't really wait for her to reply, he had never intended to; he simply wanted her to know and didn't expect a response. He was more concerned with her wound, which he had been careful to take into consideration on his way here. He knelt down next to her to match her height (as he was a good meter taller than her), gesturing at her arm, suggesting she let him take a look. Shin was a medical assistant, after all, and could tend to her wounds. He also didn't want another to tend to her; he didn't want word of the incident getting out.
Kae's eyes widened when he said that then narrowed for a moment. She looked rather unimpressed at mimicry. "I will admit, I shouldn't have broken prison property, that was uncalled for and I will pay for damages," she replied completely honestly. She did not believe the fact the guy was probably unconscious at this point didn't deserve what she did to him. There were too many people committing suicide from off-handed comments that assholes like him made. He definitely wouldn't be doing it again thus, she accomplished her job in punishing him for his misconduct.
It was a good thing he didn't expect a response because Kaelan would have given him a lecture on why she would not apologize. Fortunately, all she needed to do was give him a hard look that clearly stated; yeah right.
She exhaled to calm herself, it had been a good week since she last lost her temper like that. It was a very good amount of time considering her track record. If he hadn't been keeping an eye on her, she was sure her sentence would have already extended more than it already has.
She nodded when he gestured at her arm, her nose wrinkling like a mouse's. "Dislocated it... I don't think it put it in right," she murmured. She had done it in the middle of a fight and she wasn't exactly knowledgeable in fixing people. "Got it when I tore off the door.... I should probably try and fix that later," she murmured, feeling bad about that. That was now one more visitation room that couldn't be used until it was repaired.

Shinobu raised a brow and glanced up at her when she said she would pay for the damage she had done; he tilted his head to the side and asked, "How?" It was probably a fairly large sum to pay, he was unsure how she planned to pay it all. Maybe she was wealthy outside her prison life; Shin hadn't asked her to know. He understood her clear look though said nothing in reply, instead, focusing his attention on her arm, or more specifically, her dislocated shoulder. Poor Kae, that must hurt. "You did." He confirmed calmly. "You shouldn't try putting things back together if you don't know how to. It could get worse." He stood up, holding out a hand to her and said vaguely, "I'll give you a pain medicine." As if this explained where they were going which, in Shinobu's mind, was just the clinic to pick up the medicine and fix her shoulder. It wasn't anything difficult, Shin was confident he could do it.
"I have money saved up," Kae responded, "I do have a job," she said. She knew that despite her being in prison, her position would still be open to her. If not, she could easily become a trainer elsewhere. That and due to picking up some personal trainer gigs, she was able to save up a good sum of money. Some people paid a lot for it. It didn't mean she was wealthy though, it would cause a huge dent but it was her fault in the first place and she had to correct that wrong.
Kae nodded, glad to have that confirmed. It wasn't the first time she got her shoulder dislocated but it was the first time for it to hurt this much. She was just glad she healed a bit faster than most people. "Sorry," she murmured, knowing she'd only caused another hassle for him. "If I left it I wouldn't have been able to use it," she explained though knew it was no excuse. However, she thought that she should tell him the reason behind that insane action. She took his hand with her good, working arm [though bruised in some places and muscles strained]. "You don't need to," she told him. Her arm and shoulder may be numb to the point where she couldn't turn her head but she gets as she gets. However, she didn't fight it in this matter, knowing she would have forced him or anyone else she cared about to take it. She wouldn't be a hypocrite this time around.

Shin gripped her hand somewhat securely when she wrapped her smaller fingers around his long, slender ones, but it was clear from how fragile his hold was that he wasn't familiar with the gesture and had probably only done it to save Kae some trouble. He lead her through the halls, listening attentively to her all the while. "Do you have enough?" He questioned logically, knowing what her job was. He recalled her mentioning it before when speaking about her fathers and brothers (which he had heard a lot about for the past week). "It'll probably be more useful to you if it's working properly, so I'll tend to it." He added in a murmur. They turned a final corner and Shin lead her to the clinic's door, pushing it open and leading her inside.
(Do you want to change locations or just remain here?)
Kae honestly couldn't help but chuckle when they ended up walking while holding hands. She'd never done that with a friend before. She often befriended mainly boys who wouldn't dare do this though she had no idea why. Either way, it was nice to know that even if he was uncomfortable with it, he was still doing it. Kaelan had to wonder why he seemed to look so down on himself. He was a great guy that anyone would be lucky to have in their life. She sure was.
"I won't know until I'm told the estimate," she told him, "if I'm under then I'll arrange to do some manual work for the prison or build some of it," she stated confidently. She wouldn't rest until her debts were paid.
She nodded, "it would be much appreciated," she told him. If she couldn't use her arm properly than everything she'd worked years for would go to waste. Not completely but enough.
((I don't know if we have a clinic location, just the infirmary at the moment (maybe) staying here is fine if that's alright for you?))

"I could ask someone for you," Shinobu offered, ignoring the howling protests in his mind about having to ask total strangers. Instead, he added, "About the exact price, I mean."He waved Kae towards a stool, releasing her hand to rummage through one of the higher cabinets. He returned with a small bottle of Ketorolac, a pain medicine, and a needle. He was a bit worried, as he knew many weren't comfortable with needles, so he crouched down in front of Kae first and explained himself. "It's just a pain reliever so your shoulder won't be in too much pain. It won't hurt." He assured, in as gentle a tone as he could muster, which sounded more like quiet whisper really, but he did his best.
(( A clinic and infirmary are essentially the same thing, clinic is just the lazy way of saying it XD
That's alright with me owo ))
Kae's eyes lit up, "could you?" she asked and grinned, "that would be a lot of help," she told him. She wouldn't be able to freely go around and find someone that actually had the information. It would be very good if he did that. "You don't have to," she added after, even if it made things a bit easier, she wouldn't put him in a situation he didn't need to be in. It wasn't his job or duty to do so but helping her was a good friendly thing to do. He was such a sweetie.
Kae did as she was told, sitting down on the stool while she glanced at her arm. She pursed her lips together. It did really hurt. She glanced up at Shin when he spoke and nodded, "okay," she said, unfazed by the needle. She'd been stabbed more than once so needlework wasn't abnormal. "Thank you," she added, patting his head with her good hand. She couldn't help it, he was being so nice. "You don't need to assure me though," she stated, bluntly at that, "you being you is assuring enough."
((welp, I believe only one infirmary which is rather busy xD and wayyy to lay to do something else up xD))

(( Here it is then XP ))Shinobu nodded. "I could," he responded simply. And he would, he decided, despite his reluctance to do so. He glanced at her when she mentioned he didn't have to, and reassured her quietly. "I will, don't worry."
He waited till she sat down before he bent down in front of her, quite close too with the needle in hand. He carefully lifted her sleeves and cleaned the area before injecting the needle into her arm gingerly. Kae was lucky that she had said what she said next just as he removed the needle, otherwise he would have likely jerked it in surprise, which would have been pretty painful. When she patted his head, he tensed and moved back momentarily, but then seemed to be assuring himself it was just Kaelan, and that it was okay to accept kind gestures. Hesitantly, he moved back, leaning into her touch slightly. It was a simple action, but it was enough to relax him; he found it nice, and Kaelan always had a comforting air about her (when she was not in an angry fit), to him at least.
At her words, he looked up at her with furrowed brows and a genuinely confused expression; he was convinced his being himself was his greatest flaw, and therefore failed to understand how it assured Kae. He didn't say anything back himself, but his look of inquiry said it all for him.
((xD here we shall stay))
"You're so sweet," Kaelan said, almost absentmindedly. She was always thinking that about him. No matter could put up with her, even her family had a hard time doing it. She'd been helping out with his shifts enough to realize he wasn't exactly a people person so she was aware that it won't be a pleasant experience for him. It was nice to even offer.
Kaelan sat still, watching him more out of curiosity than anything else. She waited patiently for him to be done, focusing on staying relaxed even when it went it. It was extremely painful due to how sensitive her arm was but she knew it would be even worse if she moved.
When Shin had moved away from her touch, she left her hand in the air for a moment, gaze on him. She was basically frozen in place to see his reaction. When he moved back, she grinned and continued to pat it once more. She did it a lot to those that took her classes and her brothers. She said nothing about it and soon after lowered her hand and thanked him for the treatment. The effects were beginning to take effect.
Kaelan chuckled, shaking her head at him as she raised her arm to lightly pat him on his chest. "You're a great guy," she told him, "awkward with trust issues but that's fine," she said with a shrug... a partial shrug. "You may not see it, but I can so that's fine for now," she stated simply. She prided herself on being a good judge of character. He had his faults and he wasn't perfect but no one was.

(( Again, I'm sorry this is so late T^T ))Shinobu's eyes widened at her first compliment, which he couldn't dismiss no matter how difficult it was to accept, because it was Kaelan, and Kaelan was bluntly honest; she never lied, or to Shin, at least.
He was glad and relieved when she cheerfully patted his head once more when he moved back, glad that she hadn't been taken aback by his earlier reaction or changed her mind.
He waited some moments for the antidote to take effect, and once he was sure it had, he slowly wrapped his hands around her elbow. He moved it for her, trying to be as gentle as possible -because he knew it hurt, although Kaelan was hiding it well- as he rotated it in small circles. Soon, a popping sound was heard, indicating Kaelan's shoulder was fixed, and Shin released her arm, sitting down on the floor in front of her as he listened to her speak.
There were a lot of emotions in his expression and single eye (as the other was covered with the eye-patch). Confusion, embarrassment, and maybe, just a bit of happiness and appreciation. He respected Kaelan more and more with each passing day; she was amazing, in his eyes.
"... thank you." He said quietly.
((No worries, it's here now ^^))
Kaelan gave him a cheesy grin that soon contorted into a grimace of pain when he finally moving her shoulder back into place. Despite the previous treatment and numbness of her arm from before, it didn't cover up the pain that occurred. Now that her adrenaline had worn off, the pain was definitely slamming her like a brick to the face. It wasn't the worse thing she'd felt, getting shot hurt a lot more but this was a sudden pain that was slowly dulling after he popped it back into place. She exhaled roughly, resting heavily on the stool she sat on. It was lucky she hadn't instinctively grabbed his arm, she might have shattered his bone or something. "Thanks, Shin," she said after the moment has passed. The pain was still there but dulled now and she could manage to crack a smirk.
Kaelan chuckled and ruffled his head with her hand attached to her good arm. "I've got your back," she told him brightly. She then glanced at her arm, "I'm sure I can still kick anyone's ass if they're breaking the rules," she stated confidently and then made sure to add, "though I promise to take it easy until then."

(( Thanks ^^ ))Shinobu noted her sweet grin with interest, though, as expected of him, he did not return it with one of his own. Shinobu never smiled; he hadn't for a few years now, and it had become a normal thing for him, not smiling, that is. He'd completely forgotten that it was customary for people to return others' smiles, not that he knew much of it to begin with. Even if he had, it probably wouldn't have changed much. Shin was only bound to rules; customs and moral principles meant little to nothing to him.
He nodded wordlessly when she thanked him, but he did look a little moved when she claimed she had his back. He trusted Kaelan, and it was nice to know she wanted to support him. It almost made his want to smile.
At her next sentence, however, a pleading, worrisome expression was on his face. "Please don't kick anyone's ass. Even if," he added, his tone strict, or as strict as someone as soothing as Shin could be, at least. "they break the rules. And even after your shoulder is fine." He sighed quietly. "Your sentence will be increased."
"It's only an expression," Kaelan assured him, patting his shoulder to comfort that worried expression on his face. "I'll behave responsibly while being your assistant," she told him. She did have a short temper but she generally was well behaved and often didn't resort to using her ability, even unintentionally, to deal with certain matters. Her knowledge in martial arts took care of most people without incident. She knew he was concerned about her getting a longer sentence, though she didn't have that long of one compared to the numerous life sentences many of the other inmates had. She had it easy.
"Do you have a shift today?" she asked him, a bit concerned. What if something was to happen and the possibility of people getting hurt, including Shin developed? She was vulnerable.

Shinobu narrowed his eyes suspiciously at her despite her assurance. "You have to behave responsibly when you're not my assistant, too." He replied slowly, unwilling to leave any gaps in his wording. Not that she was required to follow his advice, of course. Kaelan was quite capable of doing whatever she wished. She had both the strength and will power to do so. Sometimes he wondered why she listened to him at all. His gaze flickered curiously to Kae when she asked about his shift. He nodded once. "I have one today, in a while." He then added, in case she wondered, "I'm on break right now."
Kaelan sighed, a bit dramatically, "you ask so much of me," she joked. "I'll try to," she informed him. If she said she would, she would have lied. She knew that her anger often got the best of her so she couldn't keep that promise. However, she could try. It would get some worry weight off his shoulders. If today wasn't proof enough.
"Okay," she said with a grin. She was glad to be given the opportunity to help him today and just hoped that nothing went amiss. She may have said she was confident in handling anything but sometimes, the expected happened. One must always be prepared but she wasn't exactly prepared.
"Well, besides slapping me back to reality, got any other plans?" she asked curiously.

"I do not," Shinobu countered objectively, but not without losing his usual monotonous and respectful tone. Shin never spoke disrespectfully to anyone he deemed better than him (which was, frankly, everyone in his opinion) and Kae was certainly that. He was relieved to know she would be joining him for his shift. Though Shin always claimed to dislike company and would much rather be alone in peace, he always secretly felt alone then, too. He had grown accustomed to the feeling, so he had forced himself to be content with it, but ever since he had befriended Kaelan, it was hard to go back to it. Accepting that old trait of his would mean abandoning Kaelan, which, he wouldn't mind doing, he didn't have enough faith in himself or others to get close enough to anyone anyways, if it weren't for his conscious and heart which refused to allow him. He found he was gradually being forced to put in a little faith, both in himself and others, by those two very traitorous parts of his own being.
He shook his head. "No," he replied, then, fearing this may motivate Kaelan to attempt to drag him into more trouble, he quickly added, "I was going to read."
Kaelan laughed, though there was never anything gentle about her laugh. It was loud and full of amusement. It was if it was trying to convince everyone else around that it was really that humorous. "Sarcasm my Watson," Kae told him with a wink and a grin. "You could never ask me for too much... well potentially but I doubt you would," she stated confidently with a chuckle.
After making her promise to him, she was very diligent in finding out when he had his shifts and frequently assisted him in situations she noticed him unfit to handle. Otherwise, she was also very strict about making sure he handled some troubling situations that she was positive he could handle despite knowing he didn't want to do anything about it. Whether she had a hand in developing a small portion of his instinct to keep her from getting into trouble, she'd never know.
There have been many occasions where things escalated beyond what she'd expected and she always protected him from getting her, even if it meant getting hit instead. She could handle it.
Kae pouted a bit but nodded in understanding, "well, I was hoping to take you to the exercise room so I can teach you some self-defence but I understand if you want to read instead," she said. She assumed this job was very demanding on the staff's time so she didn't want to snatch away too much of his time. It was almost intimidating about how honestly she spoke. She wanted to help him and was clearly excited to do so yet understanding to a fault. Optimistic people were frightening.

One of the interesting things about Kae, Shin noted, was that her height and voice were completely out of proportion. For such a small person, she had a very boisterous laugh. He picked up on her reference curiously this time; he had read about Holmes after all, and had become fascinated by the series. It was an interesting read, and had helped him pass much of his time at Nanba when he was alone before.
She probably was right about his extent of asking her for things; Shin would never work up the courage to ask her for a big favor, he believed, and even if he did, she was not required to do it.
He'd been pretty eager to mention that he wanted to read just earlier, but seeing Kae pout about it almost made him want to change his mind. He didn't want her sulking all day because of his refusal to go with her. But he also didn't want to do self defense; it seemed like tough work, and Shin didn't want to risk any accidental injuries. But yet again, he didn't want to refuse her. So, he found himself in a very conflicting position.
His distaste for the idea of practicing self defense was written clearly in his face, specifically the horrified near-disgust look he had, but he also looked as if he were having a hard time replying bluntly to Kae. Especially when he could see how sincerely she wished to help him, but her ability to empathize completely with him and back down.
After a few long minutes of thinking, he finally replied with, "... only for a little. And nothing too hard."
Kaelan watched him, waiting rather patiently for his reply. She was generally a pushy person and didn't believe the virtue in waiting but he deserved that much from her.
She could clearly tell he was not sold on the idea of practising some self-defence. She chuckled to herself, imagining him imagining her forcing him to do some complicated martial arts technique. She knew something like that would have him running for the hills. It took a lot of time and effort to master anything in martial arts. To put it simply, it was troublesome.
Kaelan then laid a hand on his shoulder, knowing he thought hard about this. "Thank you," she told him very seriously, "just a simple move and you can get to reading before the beginning of your shift," she confirmed strictly with a nod. She then smiled him and hopped down from the stool. "Let's get going then, the quicker we get there and do this, the sooner you can read," she told him, nearly bouncing on her toes... No, she was definitely bouncing from foot to foot in her excitement. Her passion was hand-to-hand combat, especially teaching it to others. She was teaching people how to live life freely without constantly worrying about finding oneself in horrible situations they can do nothing about. She was giving them a taste of freedom. At least, in her mind, that's how she saw it. "What building should we go to?" she asked. They could go where his next shift was in or the closest place to his quarters.
She could clearly tell he was not sold on the idea of practising some self-defence. She chuckled to herself, imagining him imagining her forcing him to do some complicated martial arts technique. Shin flinched faintly when she touched his shoulder, but knowing it was Kae, relaxed normally a few moments later. His eyes flashed open somewhat brightly when she mentioned he could read soon, something he was clearly happy to hear. It was almost amazing how he could have dull eyes for the whole of his time with people, and yet, his eyes always sparkled considerably whenever books were mentioned. They were the one thing that had always stayed with Shin, and he very clearly valued what they gave him. He nodded silently and stood up, watching her with amusement. She was excited, he could tell. He was glad then that he had agreed, simply because of how happy it had made her. Shin always liked it when she was happy, it put him at ease, and almost made the atmosphere heartwarming. He didn't know how Kae managed to do it, when she was standing by Shin's gloomy side, but somehow she did.
He shrugged his shoulders slightly. "The infirmary's in the neutral block. That's where my shift is." He glanced at her, then added softly, "... I think there's a recreation area around there somewhere."
When he mentioned the infirmary, it caught Kae's attention. "Oh! Okay, I know a place close enough there that should work," she said. She hadn't realized it was one of those shifts and did feel a bit of worry slide off her shoulders. Those in the infirmary were often injured so at a disadvantage. No one would try anything but even if they did, Kae was sure that even if her arm was unusable, she could protect him with ease. Kaelan was always very confident in her skills but would not be blinded by arrogance when it came to defending others. The less risk the better since many fights had unforeseen variables that could drastically change its outcome.
"No many people use it- I believe," she mused and then shrugged. She could be wrong but she had been able to check out all the training grounds for some insight in anything they could include. The prison was very proactive in keeping it up-to-date and enjoyable. It was quite surprising.

Shin was glad to hear not many used it; being around others made him uneasy sometimes. Especially if he were with Kaelan; he was sure he would catch people's attention, his being a staff member, her being a prisoner, and the clear height and body difference. He greatly disliked having a lot attention on himself. He did note her shrug afterwards, but put most of his hope in the possibility that there wouldn't be anyone else. He stood up, cleaning up everything he'd used before walking back to Kae.
"... can you handle it? Your shoulder... it still hurts, right?" He asked considerately. He had fixed it, but he was sure it would still be a little sore for a while. Perhaps an hour or so.
Kae anxiously waited for him to clean up and once he returned to her she laughed. "No worries, I've been shot before so this is nothing," she assured him. It wasn't too assuring but it could have been worse. She was just glad the conversation of why she was in prison never came up. She didn't try to hide it but it was just one she rather not have. The charges that were on her could be read easy enough but not the nitty-gritty details about the situation that occurred. Mainly, even the thought of it had her enraged enough to want to hunt them down again. It was a touchy topic and related to a stab wound she had on her side. Large groups were harder than one on one, it was very easy for someone to slip in and nick her before she could react.
"Besides, the move I plan on showing you is what I often teach young girls," she waved it off and shrugged. The first rule of fighting is to pick your fights carefully. Don't start and you can't win. When in doubt, temporarily paralyze the attacker and run like hell. Being brave is one thing but don't be stupid. That's what she always began her classes with anyway. It was what her father's taught her when they began training her.
Kae then turned and headed out to the very place she had in mind.

If Kae had been attempting to assure him by informing him that she'd been shot before, her attempts were not rewarded. In fact, Shin was even more worried. He raised a brow and his eyes widened in alarm. He didn't question her, though. His emotions may have been written clearly on his face, but Shin made no move to assure himself. If she hadn't mentioned it to him before, it probably meant she didn't wish to speak about it. Shin understood that well; he didn't really care if others knew about his upbringing or not, but he felt uneasy discussing it either way. The only person he had ever spoken to about it had been the doctor he worked as an assistant for. So, he made it a point to respect Kae's wishes and not try to push himself into her affairs. He wouldn't make her do something she didn't want to.He made a sort of face when she told him about the move. Something between a frown and a flash of protest. Whatever flaws he had, he was still a man. It wasn't the greatest compliment really to be compared to young girls. But, he didn't complain.
He nodded silently and followed behind her at first. Soon, though, he was walking by her side.
Kaelan gave him a reassuring look despite how unconvincing her words had been. She was used to a life where enduring meant getting stronger. Learning and adapting while not allowing the pain to get to you. She had experienced a lot in her life, things she may have remorse over some things she had done she did not regret it not one bit. She may have gotten stabbed and even shot but in her eyes, it had been worth it. She had learned from her mistakes and she will continue to learn from them so she will avoid making too similar to ones.
Kae laughed at his expression, "hay now, don't look like that," she told him. "It's a basic self-defence move that I tend to teach women more than men. Their fear of walking alone and needing to know they can do something to get away has them coming to learn. Not as many men get interested in it. Since you don't have any experience on actually punching or kicking, these types of self-defence moves are safest for you to learn first," she explained as he walked by her side. Her strides weren't long but her pace was still rather quick for someone of her size.
"Basically, just because I tend to teach girls- do not assume that it is lesser for you or any other man to learn," she added, her tone a bit sharp due to her moral passion peeking through.

Shin looked a bit surprised when she commented on his expression, as if he hadn't even noticed he was making a face. He looked away, obviously trying to make his expression that of his normal impassive one, and honestly, it was a pretty funny to watch. It wasn't everyday you saw people struggling to make a face. He nodded a few times as he listened to her, since he didn't have anything to say, but wanted to show her that he was listening. Shin's legs were longer than Kae's, so he was able to keep up while walking at a normal pace, despite Kae's rather quick pace.
He winced faintly at her last statement; he hated getting scolded, and especially by Kae of all people. She was older than him (which made the fact that he constantly manhandled her with ease quite entertaining), so he always felt like he'd done something bad when she scolded him, even though he usually deserved it.
He swallowed hard and nodded, murmuring quietly, "Sorry..."
Kaelan glanced at him briefly then did a double take on his unusual facial expression he was doing. She chuckled, quietly to herself. She didn't want to embarrass him or make him any more awkward or whatever he did. She kept it to herself mainly, hopefully. It was quite hilarious but she had a feeling he wouldn't take too kindly to being told that.
Kaelan nudged him lightly, looking up at him, "it's okay," she assured him. "It's a byproduct of living in this kind of world. Hopefully, it won't always be a sex-biased world," she mused and shrugged. Until then, she would just be making sure to point out to every sexist person who tried to demean her due to her gender that she could still beat their ass. "It takes time to change those thoughts but I'm sure you can do it," she told him, confident in that. He was a good guy, earnest even if he didn't think he was anything special.

Shin snapped out of his thoughts about his expression (which he had been so focused on, he hadn't noticed or heard Kae's quiet little chuckle) when she nudged him, looking down at her. He listened to her with interest, intrigued to learn her views on the topic. Shin was no stranger to the unfair sexism many people had. When he had been younger, the few days he had spent with his uncle, and the way the man had treated both Shin and his step mother; he had learned a great deal about it.
He, personally, couldn't understand it at all. Kae was such an obvious exception to all of those views. Even if people didn't know Kae, it was not hard to understand that there was probably some woman out there who could fend for herself just as well as any man. He couldn't understand how people believed in something so obviously false and ridiculous, when most of those people claimed to be smart too. How could one miss such obvious truths?
"I think.." He began quietly. ".. that if people were to see you, their views might change."
