message 2: by Heather (new)

Heather Burris (crafteegirl) | 4 comments Hoping I'm doing this right...

OMG FRANK! So totally didn't expect that letter. Kind of makes me like him a little more, until he admits that Jamie is alive and knowing he hasn't told Claire :(

message 3: by Kimberly (last edited Jun 12, 2014 03:36PM) (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_b) | 429 comments My mind is reeling! I've always had an affection for Frank. I'll admit--I cried after reading the letter.

I'm wondering though, how/why do you think Buck knows about the secret drawer in the desk? Did he read the letter from Frank or alter anything? After the fake tombstone courtesy of Frank, I'll admit I'm a little more skeptical that things aren't what they seem.

What do you all think of the Lovat prophecy?

Also, is the healer McEwan Master Raymond?? He has a similar description, plus he has the gift with the healing light. Thoughts?

message 4: by Mo (new)

Mo (mcr2020) Did Buck see the secret drawer in Echo by chance? Assuming it is the same desk. If not, then maybe it is was so common that he just knew that was what it was.

The prophecy hasn't been mentioned since Voyager so I'm glad she is bringing that back up... It is scary to think that there are people in the present that know about the family though.

I can't remember when Master Raymond was from but he did give his back story to Claire in Dragonfly. I think McEwan is another time traveler though.

message 5: by Kimberly (last edited Jun 12, 2014 11:28PM) (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_b) | 429 comments The way Roger wondered how Buck knew about the secret drawer gave me the impression that it was the same desk.

I don't remember the prophecy in Voyager, which is sad since I've read it multiple times! Can you tell me what chapter it's in, please?

I need to look back and figure out if it could be Raymond. The main reason I was wondering if it was him was because of the description of him being short and wide, etc.

message 6: by Denelle (new)

Denelle | 7 comments I don't think it's Raymond, to me the description of him would be more similar. I do wonder about the "healing lights" tho….Raymond and Claire give off blue a blue aura, but Claire's healing was red, right???? And if Roger could see the healing light, but not the aura…Claire could see the healing light but not the aura,..and this guy does not see aura lights, I don't think, because he would have related to Roger and Buck differently, right???? Sorry, thinking out loud - I'm doing this discussion to force myself to slow down in reading the book!!!

message 7: by Heather (new)

Heather Burris (crafteegirl) | 4 comments I love this discussion! So many things to follow in this series means I don't pick up the same things as others, and I love hearing those things! :)

I think they're different too, but I can't wait to find out for sure ;)

message 8: by Lis (new)

Lis | 22 comments The letter gave me goose bumps! And the dog tags... A lot of surprises from the past for Roger and Buck. I was so much into these adventures when P3 started I was going no, no no... Not yet!

message 9: by Christie (new)

Christie (christiec) | 5 comments I'm...trying...to...slow...down...
I don't want to consume all this at once. I'm going to get heartburn. In a small part of my mind I'm wondering did Diana Gabaldon have all of part one and part two written before they published book seven? I wish end of part two was where Echo had ended. A little less of a cliffhanger. Just a little...I'm so worried about Roger though! Eek.

message 10: by Mo (new)

Mo (mcr2020) The prophecy comes up in chapter 62 Abandawe in Voyager. On page 844 Geillis is trying to go to the future to kill Brianna as she is the last of the Lovat's line. I know it is mentioned elsewhere in either Voyager or maybe Drums of Autumn but I couldn't find the other reference.

Claire's healing light was blue. Raymond explains that that is why he calls her Madonna throughout Dragonfly not because she was pregnant.

Just found it in Chapter 61.

message 12: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyw) | 3 comments I'm wondering - how did a letter from Frank to Brianna get into the desk at Lallybroch? Was it something Roger found in the Reverend Wakefield's files?

message 13: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_b) | 429 comments Thanks so much, Mo! :)

I was wondering about the placement of the letter myself. Does anyone remember where the desk came from?

I believe that Buck has gone through everything in the speak a word room from book 7 because he read through all of Jamie and Claire's letters. He probably rifled through the desk too.

I think you're right! I thought I'd read something like that at some point.

message 19: by E. (new)

E. (ecatherinetobler) Recently reread Outlander (had to prep for the tv show, y'know), and just finished a Dragonfly reread last week--amazing how MOBY is touching on things from Dragonfly (and now you guys say Voyager too, which is next on the list, oh yes. :D)

message 20: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 22 comments Just finished part 2, im trying hard to pace myself, i want to race trough it all but then i will have nothing left outlander for 5 years!!! Aaaggg
Anyways part two was so good but as usual the end is a terrible clifhanger

message 21: by Christie (new)

Christie (christiec) | 5 comments I felt exact same at that point. You will have a chance to maybe catch a bit of a breath and look up once or twice in next two sections! Maybe....but I feel your pain. Trying to relax and enjoy the ride during part 5.

The desk has always been at Lallybroch. There's more about the desk in Part 6.

Thanks, that's what I thought :)

message 24: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 345 comments I was also wondering the same thing - how the heck did a letter from Frank get in the hidden drawer of the desk in Lallybroch?! Frank must've gone there when the house sat empty? Perhaps during one of his visits to Rev. Wakefield? Why would he hide it there instead of placing it in one of his books for Bree to find later?

Sometimes I get suspicious of Buck. He's such a blend of Dougal and Geillis! I find it hard to trust the man at times.

I had the same flash - that Dr. Hector is Raymond LOL! He did say that he's from the 1800-something, so we know that he's a traveler. I'm thinking he's an offspring of Raymond. Could Claire be related to Raymond in some way? She might!

Oh man - when Roger was in Randall's office at Fort William and Randall opens his cabinet to get some "refreshment" and there's his wig, powder, comb and I remembered when Claire had been in there, messing with Randall's wig (so funny!). I like how DG puts these things in, flashes of earlier books. There's bunches of them, probably more than I remember.

When Roger wanted to do something about Randall...when he talked about "damned if you do and damned if you don't"...to stop what he knows is going to happen but if he did, what would become of Bree and the kids? I liked his solution. I wonder how that will affect Randall's future actions?

The deal with Rob Cameron - how many people are in it with the guy anyway?! Is it all for the gold? Or the Fraser Prophecy? Or both? I'm thinking it started off having to do with the Fraser Prophecy until Rob read the letter that hinted at gold. Maybe.

Sheila | 34 comments Lisa wrote: "I was also wondering the same thing - how the heck did a letter from Frank get in the hidden drawer of the desk in Lallybroch?! Frank must've gone there when the house sat empty? Perhaps during one..."

Lisa,
Claire, Geillis and Comte St. Germain are all descendants of Raymond. Those are the only ones we know so far. But it would seem that McEwan is too because of the blue light. We know Claire is because she has the blue aura, I think it's DIA when Raymond tells her that's why he calls her Madonna. Raymond tells St. Germain that he's one of his in The Space Between.

message 26: by Susan (new)

Susan | 17 comments I have an idea about Rob but not sure if I can post in this thread....let me confirm.

message 27: by Joyce (last edited Jun 18, 2014 04:20PM) (new)

Joyce Glover | 2 comments About the letter, it first shows up in Echo, Bree finds it in a book written by Frank on the American Revolution. Although it is described as a draft, so I don't know if it is the same copy of just a draft of the other copy she finds in the desk. Anyway, she doesn't read all of it because she is interrupted by Rob Cameron who has come to find out about where the gold is buried. So does she stuff it in the desk then and find it again later?? I don't know. (Chaper 91, Footsteps..Echo in the Bone)

message 28: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments WOW this section has got me all fired up. I want to just Binge on reading but I actually will be taking a week's break. I will be going away and I want to give my all to the retreat I will be on as well as Moby so even though it is a terrible place to stop (is there ever a good place though) I have to put MOBY down until next Friday. What a cliffhanger I will be left on until I return.

message 29: by MissSusie (new)

MissSusie | 146 comments I sure hope Bree & Roger find each other eventually, it would completely break my heart if he was gone for good. plus did that letter to Abernathy mean she was headed back to Jamie & Claire? She can't then everyone is in different times why didn't Bree go through the stones to find Roger ? Ack I want to be back to this storyline how sad is that I want to get through the Jamie & Claire stuff.

And what happens if Roger goes back through he stones to get back to his family and they are gone, what then he can't keep going back and forth through the stones isn't that bad for you??

This book is hard with the two completely separate storylines I wish when Maddie was all better they would have just gone back to the 1700's and been with the rest of the family , I feel like it is where Jem belongs anyway.

If I wasn't listening on audio I would probably read all the sections with Bree & Roger then all the sections with Claire & Jamie.

message 30: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 1 comments Is anyone else bothered by the fact that Rob broke his leg falling down the preisthole but is still somehow able to run around wreaking havoc in Inverness and Lallybroch?

message 31: by Patty (new)

Patty | 190 comments Did he break his leg?

message 32: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Michelle,
I think she said Roger`s leg was broken and yes I sure noticed him buzzing along,I wonder if she forgot the broken leg ?

message 33: by Patty (new)

Patty | 190 comments Rob was the one who said "You've broken my leg, you f@&@ing b*%#h!" Page 168 I'm thinking he was just whining about being dropped into the priest hole just hurt his leg but did not break it.

message 34: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I was thinking the same thing. He deserved a broken leg and more. I hope he gets his come up'ins before the end of the series.

message 35: by Patty (new)

Patty | 190 comments He does deserve more then a broken leg, Diane! In my fantasy brain I see Buck going back to 1980 killing Rob and then going back to his wife and children and lives a long life.

message 36: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I would like to see Buck changed so he does not need to kill Rob and just go back to cherish his family.

message 37: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Roberts | 6 comments Kimberly wrote: "Thanks so much, Mo! :)

The desk was at Lollybrach in the 18th century.

message 38: by Cathrin (new)

Cathrin I have to admit that I don't really care for all the supernatural stuff besides the time travelling itself. The healing and Mandy's and Jemmy's abilities to feel where the other one is.

message 39: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I like that because I know this is a work of fiction so I can suspend my beliefs on reality. ( But I can get into sci fi/ fantasy type of stuff too) I think it kind of fits in to the superstitions and beliefs of that time period. If I can go with the time traveling I can get on with the healing and telepathy.

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 549 comments Omg Roger gets to meet Brian Fraser! I love it! I'm so glad I get a glimpse of Brian in the series. I can't wait until DG writes the books about Brian and Ellen.

Vanessa, did you read the novella "A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows" (out of the compilation "Songs of Love and Death")? You would find answers to your questions there!

message 45: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 549 comments No, I haven't read them. I will have to pick those books up.

message 46: by Rowena (new)

Rowena | 15 comments always love this small stuff Diana slips in about Frank. Cant wait for Jenny to meet Roger at the Ridge and remember meeting him before! the wait is really hard (sigh)

message 47: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I can't wait for that too!

message 48: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (EllenChristine) | 245 comments @VanessaEden I"m just at that place in MOBY, now, ( finding the tags, going to meet BJR) and I'm thrilled to see how DG ties in all these ends. It's starting to feel like I-95 in the Highlands, though, with all the travelers that turn up. And I love the thought that he meets BJR "before" he turns evil, or Roger at least gives him that benefit of the doubt. I'm deathly afraid of finishing this book, and not having the next one to read. Now I know how you all have been dealing with this for the last 20 odd years! mmmph.

message 49: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (EllenChristine) | 245 comments @Michelle @Kathy Anne it was Rob who said that Bree had broken his leg when she dumped him into the priest's hole. It wasn't clarified, so since he managed to escape, I guess it wasn't broken after all, and that was just one of the many insults/epithets/curses he was tossing her way that night to demonstrate his feelings at being thwarted by his "boss".
