Kay Scarpetta Books/Movie Group discussion

Hi everyone!
I've got a question for you about the "Kay Scarpetta" series: can I read her books not in the chronological order? Here, in Italy, is difficult find all these books and in my bookcase I've got just five of them.
I really want to start this series but I don't know if I can.
So, please answer to my question and I'll be grateful with you forever.

It is possible to read them out of order as the main continuing characters usually have little explanatory comments early on about who they are and what they do. However, events in earlier books are often referred to, both regarding interactions of the main characters with each other and with "villains."
If you go to www.thriftbooks.com you can find many of the Scarpetta books, not including the most recent ones, in both paperback and hardback. The prices in the US are as low as $3.95 US for a hardbound, and free shipping on orders over $10. Don't know about prices/shipping/availability for Italy, but it's worth a look.
Her books are very detailed and convuluted, and require paying close attention, as sometimes relevant clues are buried in random things early on. Good luck.
