That's incredibly true, Manda. Before I joined the bookish community it took me a month to read one book and I didnt even notice/care. Now I feel so slow and like Im missing out because Im so slow. Its hard but Ive come to recognize what my personal goals are and just read for enjoyment. If it takes me a month, so be it. At least I hopefully enjoyed that one book :)
Some people need a challenge or at least a game of sorts to motivate them to read that old book instead of the new. So I made the challenges. To each their own! :)

This month I want to read
,
and a couple of the penguin little black classics :) I do hope to read more than these few, but there are some big/intimidating reads there so we'll see how I go!
Good Luck!!! I've been wanting to invest in some classics myself. There are so many Ive never actually read! One book at a time, right? :)

I had a set TBR when I first joined this group but I've nearly completely trashed it. I'm such a mood reader so having a list of specific books I want to get to just isn't working for me these days. My mood changes too quickly. BUT I did find that having a set number of books to read a month works better. This month I'm hoping to read 4 books.
I have currently picked up two High Fantasy books that I've been meaning to get to for the longest time: (1) The Lies of Locke Lamora and (2) The Fifth Season. I started The Fifth Season last year but got distracted with other books. Jemisin's books are always slow-going for me and I just have to be patient with it and myself to really get into it.
So far I'm enjoying The Lies of Locke Lamora. It's a very colorful, vast world that I'm trying to not let overwhelm me. Lynch's writing helps in that regard by intertwining the info dumps into the narrative for no more than 3-4 pages. And since his writing is so vivid, I don't find myself drifting off into daydreams as I have done with other books. But since there is so much to learn, I couldn't begin to explain all the names of places and people I just read about today. Every single thing, even the months and years have their own unique names compared to what they're called in our reality. Maybe when I get halfway through I'll have a more concrete mental map of where everything is in the world.
I completely understand! My monthly TBR piles keep fluctuating! I plan to finish a book or a series and when the time comes...never do it. Im a mood reader as well. Having a monthly number is a genius idea though! I may have to try that! :)
Ive been wanting to pick up Locke Lamora but Ive been in fantasy overload lately. I was worried it may be a little too heavy for my current Fantasy slump. Thanks for the info! I hope names and places start falling into place and you end up loving it. Ive heard such great things about that series. Actually, nothing BUT good things!! Lol

I'm happy those cozy mysteries are working for you with your slump! Switching up your genres is definitely a great way to get back into reading--my go-to genre to get over a slump is usually romance lol.

So, since Im not too too late, what are you reading this month?
I am currently reading Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. I am really enjoying this book!!! The last Moriarty book I picked up had a character that just bugged me. The characters in this book are perfection. I love them. I hate them lol Its great!
For the rest of the month, Im taking it one book at a time. I found myself stuck in a HUUUUGE Fantasy rut (and by huge...I mean the size of these books! Omg!) I just didnt get excited to read them. I had trouble finishing books. It wasnt fun.
So I changed up my plans! I grabbed some cozy mysteries and knocked them out quickly. That made me feel better! Now Im just grabbing as I go and reading whichever book calls out to me the loudest.
How has your reading been going?
