Incomplete Series Challenge
>
Silvana's Hall of Shame
I need to start Ketty Jay and probably won't until July or August but if you're up for group reading the other books in the series I'd have interest.
Welcome to the party. Your list isn't too bad.
Welcome to the party. Your list isn't too bad.
Great, let's buddy read that one!I actually have some first in series to read like The Way of Kings, Control Point, The Age of Empire, Geist...I need to sort them out later.
Haha I like your title. :) some good books on that list! I'm hoping to read more by Jemisin after finishing out her broken earth trilogy.
@Niki: Yes Jemisin is awesome (The Fifth Season was my no 1 novel last year) but her debut novel (The Thousand Kingdoms) irritated me alot. I read a Dreamblood short story in an anthology and really liked it so hopefully this duology is as good.

We'll get there!
Rules: You must finish, bring UTD, or Abandon 5 series for every 1 before you can start another. Silvana's 5 for 1 Challenge Log [1]:
1. The Last Policeman (finished)
2. Dirk Gently (abandoned)
3. Cormoran Strike (abandoned)
4. Machineries of Empire UTD
5. Earthseed (finished)
Prize: Long Price Quartet
Silvana's 5 for 1 Challenge Log [2]:1. Aubrey Maturin - abandoned
2. The Passage - abandoned
3. Robot series - abandoned
4. Poe Dameron (3/3) - UTD
5. The Last Dragonslayer - abandoned
Prize: Wayward Children
Silvana's 5 for 1 Challenge Log [3]:1. Blackthorn and Grim (abandoned)
2. Riftwar Saga (abandoned)
3. Midnight Texas (abandoned)
4. Black Panther (abandoned)
5. Mars trilogy (abandoned)
Prize: Takeshi Kovacs
Thanks, Scott. It is easy for now but looking at all those dozen series I want to start....very daunting.
Log 3- now moving to 2 for 1 challenge since 5 for 1 is no longer possible at this stage. 1. Luna (UTD)
2. The Wayward Children (abandoned)
Prize: Bobiverse
Log 71. Legend of Korra (finished)
2. The Interdependency (abandoned)
Prize: Thrawn ( I can't wait for this one)
Log 111. Legend of First Empire (abandoned)
2. Bas Lag (finished)
Prize: Ranger's Apprentice
Two more series to finish and three to UTD!
I have all the Discworld novels I need to read and am now waiting for discounts on the others. *praying for Murderbot discount*
Log 131. Industrial Revolution arc, Discworld (finished)
2. Rangers Apprentice (abandoned)
Prize: Monstress
Only one series to go then? Good job Silvana! I really hope you finish Blackthorn and Grim someday - it makes me so sad to see it abandoned.
Two series to finish and two to UTD. Total books: 7. Still quite a lot of books to me :( And look at those series I want to start. I now seriously hoping I could abandon some of them after reading the first books which I already own so I will have fewer commitments 😂Blackthorn and Grim... I don't remember why abandoned it after book 2. Must be something really annoying since I usually abandon series after the first books....
edit: apparently Murderbot series has ended.
Fantastic job! So that means you should start more series in 2019 and let the number of open series bloat up again? Silvana wrote: " And look at those series I want to start. I now seriously hoping I could abandon some of them after readin..."
Maybe that's why you've been abandoning a lot more books? Hahaha.
But, I agree. Too many books, too little time. If you're not enjoying it after 100 pages, probably better to abandon it and see if you would come back sometime in the future.
Btw, Revelation Space is also on my wishlist. But, probably sometime after Jun 2019? Hahaha. Damn, at this rate I could plan my series read for the next few years ...
Coming back to DNFed books, that never happened though. So far the only one I DNFed this year that I miiiight plan to come back is The Gray House. But no guarantee. Too many books too little time indeed. I'll always abandon series if the last book I read are not three stars or more.
Agree, time is too precious to waste on reading books that you do not enjoy. I stopped reading something as soon as it is not enjoyable anymore. If I did not enjoy the first 100 pages I will probably abandon it for good.
Log 141. Peter Grant (UTD)
2. Ringworld (abandoned)
Prize: Avatar TLA Library series
Log 15:
1. ATLA Library series (finished)
2. Malazan (abandoned, again) - I guess I'll never finish this one and don't have the energy to embark on a long series next year.
Prize: Green Bones saga
So that concludes my series challenge this year. I will think of another personalized one for next year.
For 2019 since I have much fewer series than last year, I will just continue the challenge but now with 1:1 formula.Log 1
Abandon: Tensorate series
Prize: Imperial Radch
Log 2
UTD & abandon: Dragon's Legacy
Prize: The Fionavar Tapestry
I think I found and converted to read more Kindle ebooks too late in my life. Reading ebooks is a lot faster than reading paperbooks, I don't know why. Too many books to read, too little time left :DAnyway, I think I should make a listing of all the series that I have started and see whether I should read them until the end. I have been reading too many first books of a series lately. I just left everything hanging, because of the temptation of a yet another new book (that turns out to be a beginning of a [sometimes long] series) *sigh
mina wrote: "I think I found and converted to read more Kindle ebooks too late in my life. Reading ebooks is a lot faster than reading paperbooks, I don't know why. Too many books to read, too little time left ..."you should! this kind of thread is a useful tracking and decision-making tool, but I also use GR shelves e.g. series-i-follow shelf.
Just made the list. There are more than 60 series (I still include all genres)! I will not continue reading everything, of course. But I am reminded of the series that I really like but never get through to reading the rest of the series. Thanks for the idea!

You might want to try the 5 for 1 challenge like I did the first time, then when it gets to 30 series start with 3 to 1 and so on.
