I didn't realize this series would be 4 books so I got nervous towards the end since nothing seemed to be getting resolved. Cal disappointed me too at the end.
Going in I knew that there would be a fourth book. I agree I was let down with Cal, he doesn't know how to pick mare over his throne obviously. I'm excited to see what happens next with maven. This book we got to see more of how he became what he is, hopefully he turns everyone around next book.
I must admit, the ending left me confused. Starting out the RQ series, I liked most of the main characters and the plot. But in the end, the books got worse and worse. Cal kept choosing the crown, and Maven became a lost cause after what, a year? I feel like this series could be shortened into maybe 3 books. When there wasn’t a war or any fight scenes, it was filled useless dialogue and just stuff that wasn’t important. I would rate this a 3.5/5

In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl's spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?
Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother's web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.
As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare's heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.
When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.
