What conflicts between characters are you seeing early on? How might these affect the story down the line?

Mallory Pierce | 3 comments Early in the book I noticed that Homer Jr and his brother do not get along very well. I also thought it was interesting how Homers father doesn't show any compassoin toward Homer. These conflicts between characters could affect where Homer goes in his life and how their family functions.

Reis Derousseau | 2 comments I believe that in this book right off the bat, Homer's mother and father have an on going conflict. I don't think that their marriage is a healthy and happy on at that. Homer's mother wants more for your children then what her husband is doing now. They don't seem to have a good relationship and this might effect Homer in the future.

Peter Adler | 2 comments Right away you can see that Homer and his older brother don't get along. Which sort of makes the parents choose which side of an argument there on, and its usually Homer's older brother.

Brea Fryett | 2 comments At the start, Homer and his older brother don't get along at all. They always tried to hurt each other when they were kids and now as teenagers they don't talk to each other often. This could be a problem down the road for when one might need the others help.

Gohan White | 1 comments Homer Jr. (Sonny) does not get along well with his brother or his father. Sonny's relationship with his brother is the typical relationship with a brother, they fight with each other and overall dislike each other. This will definitely affect Sonny later on in the story with school bullies.

Brianna Battista | 2 comments From the beginning Homer Jr. and his brother don't get along very well. They fought a lot when they were kids and still as teens they don't really get along. Another conflict I noticed was between Homers parents; they argue very often and don't seem to get along.

Seth (419Burgers) | 2 comments I noticed that Homer Jr. and his Family don`t get along really well, expect with his Mother, they end up arguing a lot in the course of Fifty Pages. Yet the Mom and the Dad do get along just fine, not really fighting more like how parents argue over little things.

Halle Burkhalter | 3 comments I noticed that Homer Jr. and his brother did not get along very well and as they continued to grow older they grew more and more apart from each other. I also noticed how the mom and the dad had disputes because they had different views on mining and what they wanted their children to grow up to be.

Miranda Geszvain | 3 comments It is made quite obvious that Homer Jr. or "Sonny" and his father don't have the healthiest of relationships. His father wants a life/career for him that he does not. Also the Hickam family in general doesn't have the ideal relationship.

message 11: by Jezzie (new)

Jezzie Graf | 3 comments In the beginning the boy and his father don't see eye to eye. The father wants him to become a coal miner like him because that is what the area where he lives, that everyone works for. This conflict is gonna go bad through out the book because the boy isn't doing what the father wants and in the process of it the boy is going down the direction he wants to go for life.

Jacob | 3 comments Right off the start of the book, Homer and his dad do not get along nearly as good as his older brother who plays football and his father. Homers dad does not approve of Homers building of rockets, later on his dad retaliates less and less when he finally sees that his son is successful at it.

Daltonprielipp | 1 comments Well homer and his brother don't get along at all. His mother and father seem to have a weird kind of marriage going on where they don't seem to care about what the other is doing. But we will get to see all this pan out as we read on.
