Kinsey Millhone is hired by Daisy Sullivan to find out what happened to her mother Violet who disappeared 34 years ago, in 1953. The book alternates between Kinsey's investigation and chapters told from the POV of people who knew Violet and their interactions with her before her disappearance. I enjoyed the switching back and forth part of the book and the changes in time from the 1950's to the 1980's. I do feel that the end was a bit rushed and would have liked to know more what happened to the various characters.
