Hmm. The description said that when she's following the trail of her parent's murderers it leads back to a place they've been taught to trust. I bet the Clave is screwing up more. Something to do with the Seelie Court and the Clave.
I think it's someone from the Seelie Court, I have a weird sensation that it's the Seelie Queen...? Or maybe the Clave- I mean the Council meetings about Helen Blackthorn made Emma sooo mad. Or maybe someone completely different.
Well cassie said its someone we know and love. The LA characters we know (and love)
-Tessa
-Jem
-Blackthorns
-Emma
Since Emma and the blackthorns are the protagonists....
I have a theory the bad guy/guys are Jem/Jem and Tessa...
Plus, Cassandra Jean has an art of Jem, and an art of Sebastian in which they are displayed very very similarly.
Which are those too pictures of Seb (I <3 him, don't judge ^^)and Jem ( I <3 him much more, don't worry)that are similar though?

Sebastian:

Jem:

(I hope they work, I haven't mastered photo uploading yet)
With the ribs showing and such.
And I love those two boys too.
I think it has to do with the seelie court. Tessa and Jem are too well known and loved to be the antagonists. Plus, they already had their series. They will most likely be background characters, popping in here and there.

Besides, isn't the main plot point discovering the murderers, exchanging that info with the seelie court, and getting Mark back for that info?

Ok that picture of Sebastian is creeeeeepy...

ANYWAYS.
(This is ‘dumbed’ up so my friends could understand it)
Notice how both of them have things sticking out of their chests? Right? And their rib cages are showing?
Right, ok. Well Cassandra said that the villain for the next series is “Someone you know very well, and you love”
Right well, it takes place in LA, not NYC, so that mostly rules out those kids. And sebastian dead and hated.
Guess who lives in LA? Jem and Tessa
Well theres a theory that Tessa/Sebastian were allies.
And it makes total sense (How else did Sebastian know when the clave would be in the LA institute? How else did Sebastian get into everything in the clave? He needed an ally on the inside. But not just anyone could get him in-He needed a warlock to portal him-Tessa is a warlock)
So like, seeing them drawn in very similar ways by the official artist just makes me think this even more.
And the ‘villains’ killed Emma Carstairs parents, and they had odd marks (IE-Not normal shadowhunter markings).
Jem is a carstairs, and Tessa has been stalking the family for over a hundred years.
What if they marked them, or killed them? Or both? Maybe a failed experiment? But like, Emma’s parents would trust them.
Jem was a silent brother-silent brothers give the shadowhunter children their first marks. Jem could have easily been the one.
Tessa is trusted for researching most every shadowhunter problem dealing with marks. She could have found the odd marks and passed them onto Jem at their yearly meeting (which is also kept a secret!)
So I dunno. I feel like its Jem.
(Also, Jem, Sebastian, Camille, and Valentine are the only white-blonde/super-pale haired people in the series-all of them were evil except for Jem)
I want that to be true so bad, but I really don't think it is. It's such a great theory, my mind is blown
It's a good theory, but I find it very hard to believe. We just spent an entire series building these two characters. They've had their time to develop and grow. I very much doubt they will be a huge part of the novel. And Jem helped the Shadowhunters when he was still a silent brother back in TMI. Why would he start killing them now? Plus Tessa was with the Iron sisters for most of TMI. And Cassie said that these would only get brief appearances in the book. Nothing big. My guess is the villain will be someone else who is minor from the first book, but we love. It could be one of the warlocks besides Magnus. Ragnor is always an option. Or it could be one of the many Shadowhunters we've met. Only time will tell.
Oops sorry! I was thinking of the wrong character. I meant Malcolm Fade. He's the high warlock of LA so he's the one I was thinking of. I just got the names mixed up for a second there. It could also be Caterina Loss...

This is an awesome theory!! I actually think it would be pretty interesting to have my favorite characters be "evil" for a bit >:) I assume, however, that if this theory was true, there would be many other factors (I think that Jem and/or Tessa would have had a misunderstanding with the shadowhunters at some point or something like that) and I bet the Seelie court and even Malcolm Fade, as Emilia said, could have a role on the dark side.
