I'm Michael Alexander Rice. I've just published my debut novel, Celebrity Gulag, a science fiction thriller based in the near-future U.K after an online pandemic has wiped out the internet (written well before recent events in the news, I promise!), leaving low-rent tabloids as the main source of news and cruel 'reality' tv shows as the main form of entertainment.
Dr. Philip Bruno is a physicist, partly responsible for designing El Camino, the world's largest experimental nuclear fusion reactor and history's most expensive scientific experiment. Finally surpassing the atomic breakeven, his work is usurped in order to cover up a national scandal, which his friend and mentor uses as a chance to claim all of the credit for their breakthrough for himself. Dr. Bruno is falsely imprisoned to cover the trail that leads to a second, superior reactor built overseas from leaked plans.
Released years later as an unwitting participant in a televised hunting spectacle, he inadvertently becomes famous by surviving, making him a sought after television personality. Determined to clear his name, he seeks out his former friend to uncover the truth about the events leading to their milestone, but in doing so stirs up more than just memories from the past.
