For the last reading assignment of the year, I read a collection of poems by Langston Hughes who was extremely popular during the Harlem Renaissance. Most of his writings are about the struggles of African Americans and how they were handled day to day. Most of the poems are decently comprehendible and easy to understand. Some of my favorites throughout this collection were the poems inspired or written about music. There is one about tambourines that expresses how glorious music and gospel sounds can all be. I prefer Langston Hughes's styles because his works flow and are enjoyable to read. He can really grasp the true feelings of different situations and can put your head right there. His poems can say so much even with using minimal words; that is true talent. The last poem I will mention that I really enjoyed is called "Still Here". Hughes explains even after a series of unfortunate events, you must always remember to keep a positive attitude because you have the honor to exist at all. Langston Hughes is an inspiration to all and his poems are carried with us through generations.
