The Shack by William Paul Young The Shack by William Paul Young

Book Description:
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his "Great Sadness," Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.

Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever.

In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant The Shack wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

Laura (lauradragonchild) are we supposed to read tho in June or July? I got a little confused due to the monthly polls.

June

Laura (lauradragonchild) Thank you. I'll read it next week then.
I could8hrlp notice there are very few people involved in the monthly reads and I would have a suggestion. Maybe it would work better if we scraped the whole book of leftover books to vote for next month and start from the beginning letting everyone vote for something new. Maybe not many like the books left on the list and they will participate more with a fresh list.

Alison Wall | 27 comments Has anyone started yet and what do you think? I just requested from the library so will start once it comes in!

Laura (lauradragonchild) if you want we could buddy read it Alison. I would like to start it next week too. we could set a limit of a certain number of chapters per day and then comment on it daily or once in a few days. I think it would be a lot more fun this way, rather than just reading it by ourselves and telling whether we liked it or not at the end. We're doing this in another group I'm in and it's really fun. what do you think?

message 7: by Alison (new)

Alison Wall | 27 comments Sure! I think every few day works best for me because I actually listen to my books in the car on my commutes. I did request the paper also since I start working from home full time starting the 28th and won't be driving much any more. I'll comment when it gets in😊

Laura (lauradragonchild) I can only start on the 28. would that be ok with you? And we don't have to read it fast either. You decide about how many chapters or pages you want to do daily and I'll keep pace :).

Alison Wall | 27 comments Sounds good! It just came in and I'll start tomorrow but I'm going out of town Friday until Monday so I'll have to be off for a few days. So I'll get through first chapter by then if that ok!

Ana Till | 40 comments I read this book last month and loved it. It really makes you think about how you treat people and judge. However, Nick and I watched the movie recently and we talked about how we do not find it possible to forgive someone who has murdered our child. I would hold them responsible for life and never forgive them. Lastly, the book has made me step back and think about why people act the way they act and why they are the way they are. We all have our own story that has made us into the person that we are today. Do not let the past determine your future.

Laura (lauradragonchild) it sounds like a good book Ana. I'm looking forward to it. :)

Laura (lauradragonchild) did you start it Alison? And how far along are you?

message 13: by Alison (new)

Alison Wall | 27 comments Yes I did, I started last week only through the intro and in the first chapter. I'm listening in a MP3 player and the little screen is broke and it doesn't me when it's on the next chapter! Not through enough to really know what's going on.

Laura (lauradragonchild) oh. ok. how do you like it so far?

Alison Wall | 27 comments It's ok so far I have been so busy bought a house and just listed our current home today! I hope to start again tomorrow!
