Almost anything by Gail Carriger should work for this prompt. I can personally vouch for the Parasol Protectorate series as quite enjoyable. The first book is Soulless.

would the Cinder series by Marissa Meyer work for this prompt?

I counted Cinder but a lot of people disagree since it isn't in a historical setting. But it certainly has the technology

For those looking for YA recs, I loved the Leviathan series by Scott Westerfeld.

I think the problem with cinder is that it doesn't really have the prevailing themes of Victorian aesthetic and steam power/old timey clockwork like technology. But I've seen it listed so it's up to you.

It could, she's a cyborg so technically not human BUT at least part of the story is them trying to get cyborgs treated as human because they are essentially humans...

OK...Stupid confession time. I thought I had seen that someone had mentioned Ink and Bone for this category. I just finished Ink and Bone and then realized they must have been talking about Ink and Bone! No worries...the first book fit into "Book about a difficult topic". I'm looking for a Steampunk novel that my library has as an OverDrive audiobook. (I'm able to get through those faster...I'm already working through 2 other 'real books' for other categories.)

I am reading soulless, but to be quite honest I have been having to look up words like: Verbose,Urbane,Provenance, Diminutive, Progeny, Treacle ,Cravat, Claviger ,Propensity, Reticent, Diffidence, Preeminence ,Boor, Desultory. Half I knew, but double checking because I haven't seen nor heard the word in years. The others are completely brand new to me. I know it's good to stretch your mind and learn, but Lordy that was just the first chapter😂is the whole book this way?

I'm looking for any help in this category. It's definitely not a genre I usually read. I've looked at Soulless and Leviathan, but I'm not sure i'll like either of those. Any other ideas?? This is gonna be a tough one for me because of the emphasis on technology, but I'm willing to give it a go.

Maybe check out Jani and the Greater Game? If I'm remembering it right, the main character is more focused on tea, politics, and adventures than on how the mechanical stuff works. It's less romantical than Soulless, but younger characters. Not early YA like Leviathan though: I haven't read it, but reveiws say they're as young as 14, whereas Jani is more like 18-19-ish I think.

These are great words and one of the reasons I love my Kindle. You can just touch the word and it pulls up a dictionary definition for you. So cool.

I am archiving this thread because there is a stempunk book in this folder already.
