Re-reading, yay or nay?

It depends entirely on the book, and I mean mostly the nature of the book, not the quality.I can pick up any Harry Potter book and open it to any random page and start reading and immediately be sucked back in. Same with nearly anything by Lois McMaster Bujold. It doesn't matter at all that I already know what happens. They generally have to be books where I know and love the characters.
On the other hand, there are lots of 5-star books on my shelves that I'll probably never read again. I can't imagine re-reading The Fifth Season. There's no escape or comfort to be found there, to say the least.
Yes I like to re-read books but mostly my favorites. Meet the characters again you love. I have books I know I will laugh every time I read them and sometimes you need that. It's just sad you can't experience it like the first time you read the book.
Nay. I never reread. I want new experiences. I'm not even all that fond of series because they sometimes regurgitate the same plot, theme or tone over and over.

That being said, I have re-read a few things, most notably Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa, Armor by John Steakley, Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein, Chronicles of the Black Company series by Glen Cook and Wild Cards series by George R.R. Martin. But that is over the course of 30 odd years at this point.
