We used to do this here. Back in 2018, I think. Spell-the-Month.

Nathan (nathan-93) | 554 comments The Mini-Readathon : Would love to have this back :D

My Idea:
Take Your favorite book----> Read the First line.
Then read all the novels[any genre] from the starting letter & so on consecutively till you reach the last letter of the last word.

For Example: Last Night I dreamt that I went to Manderley Again.
So the Challenge is
L- Long Bright River by Liz Moore
A- Animal Farm by George Orwell
S- Saving Noah by Lucinda Berry
T- Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh
...
..
N-
so on till last letter of the selected sentence.

@Leena, in book bingo we have a bingo board with each column containing a prompt to read ..
and you get bingo cards with numbers ...
you have to read according to your numbers and finish top row, middle row , corners, full house etc

suppose in bingo card no. 9 is read a book set in desert and I have 9 in my bingo card ...I may read that prompt

a bingo card will contain some 15 numbers ..
bingo board will have 100 prompts ..

Mods will assign you cards via email or message

earlier I had started a game of book chain
example
I will suggest
Gone girl
someone else interested will comment below ...selected ...
and suggest their choice ..another person will take up reading that book and then suggest another ..thus the chain perpetuates ..
unfortunately it didn't succeed at all and I was stuck with book 1..(・_・;)ಠ‿ಠ

message 17: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7194 comments one of my groups actually does an informal chin read. you decide your chain e.g the good daughter
the light keeper's daughter
all the light across the ocean

it's great. coz at one spot u get ideas to add to your tbr and also check out extensive reading lists.

Hi Jyoti,
I'm here on Goodreads and groups only for indulging in BRs.
Do check this thread -> https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....
If you have a partner or group with whom you regularly BR, make a lifetime BR thread here (or request to participate a currently running BR) -> https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Hope this helps.

This is a good idea. Let people read a book related to the theme and explain how it is related.

message 21: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7194 comments actually its a chain the reader creates for oneself. so they make their chain and the time frame to finish it in. it could be a series too.

Some great ideas there. I will discuss them before rolling them out here.

The challenges that I have participated in are Cover Challenge, Bingo, A-Z, books to movies. For personal challenges I have done debut author, decade challenge, award winners.

We can also do a continent challenge.

Which continents should we do? South America, Asia, Europe, and Africa? Australia and North America.. Australia is just one country and we have too many books based in America..

If we pick one of Africa\Europe\Asia - read books from different countries of same continent, and check how many countries you covered.

For America - south American countries can be considered. For North America, 2 countries plus books based on 50 states - i can't think of a list having variety in America to be considered for a continent challenge
Same for Australia, New Zealand and Iceland.

We can try picking one of Asia\Africa\Europe for this year.
Just thinking out loud. open to suggestions.

Shikha (shikham) | 3 comments 1. Read books of the same author.
2. Read the same book and write/ discuss about how would you have changed the story.
3. Read a freedom story of different countries and compare the struggles.
4. Each one of us read a book which was published on our birth year.
5. Read a book which has been translated in more than 25 languages.
6. Read a book which is a debut book of any author.

message 35: by Arpit (new)

Arpit (arpitjoshi) | 1334 comments Similar to ARMCHAIR TRAVELS challenge where the participants commit themselves to visit certain number of countries through books, why dont we start Indian states wise challenge where the participants pledge to read books set in different Indian states/UTs. It fits the group name as well. Also, I am sure it will lead to discovery of some good Indian authors and books from not so popular states.

message 36: by Arpit (new)

Arpit (arpitjoshi) | 1334 comments Another year long challenge that I came across in other group -

Participants curate a list of 24 books they want to read through out the year. Moderators choose one number from 1-24 at random at the start of the month and participants have to read the book on that number from the list.

Oh yes, so maybe I'm more encouraged to finish this challenge! I have only a few states left and it's too difficult for me to find books with those settings because they aren't sold on amazon Italy and I'm not allowed to buy from amazon India. I could check amazon.com, but I should change settings and whatever... too complicated for me and I'm not even 100% sure that after all this hassle I can find those books there.
