This is a Robin Hood re-telling from the perspective of Maid Marian. In this version Maid Marian is an orphan of noble birth being raised by a nurse maid and oblivious of her family origins. Constantly finding herself the political pawn of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine's greedy game while King Richard is away at The Crusades, she eventually seeks out the famous outlaw Robin Hood.
In general I liked the overall story and the characters, though some of the monologues dragged a bit. I felt this book was constantly having an identity crisis of not being able to decide if it was YA book or not. Maid Marian in this book is very young and very naive, but sometimes the story lines read very maturely if that makes sense. Kind of like if Tuck Everlasting and The Mists of Avalon had a baby, this is the book that would come out. Anyways, I was reminded how much I love the character of Robin Hood, and now want read more.
