Yes, I'm old school...."I haven't seen it yet, Ken. However, if resembling a superhero movie is the worst of its crimes I'll be pleasantly relieved.
I too love those old Universal Monster-Mashups, but I feel more wary than excited by the planned reboots.

I actually thought the story was pretty good and the acting was extremely solid. My only gripe was the video game/action hero action sequences where people are thrown about/beaten up in situations that would probably kill most people, but the heroes barely have a scratch.

The various comments are basically just not good and scary bits having no reason to happen, just happening for no reason. Sounds like a weak script to me and they were very critical of Tom Cruise.
I have mixed feelings about him as an actor. He was perfect for Top Gun, but just seems like a yahoo in others.

Ok, thanks for the heads-up. ;)

TV and movie car crashes are the bane of my life. Half-dozen mid-air rolls, and then get out the vehicle without so much as a scratch or whiplash - drives me crazy!
I was intrigued by the trailer, but from the sounds of it, it's more a Tom Cruise action movie than a horror movie, so that's a bummer.

I do think it's worth watching. There are some great parts in the story line. The idea that this evil Egyptian queen-to-be was taken far away and buried in an unmapped tomb in Iraq and then sealed with mercury, so on so forth. It really is a cool premise and as everything Hollywood has been doing for the last decade, it is set up to be a franchise that interweaves with other characters in the movie. I get it. Its all about making money. I get tired of that part, but I'm hoping the franchise takes the parts that I like and expands on them. Can't blame a guy for hoping, can you??

That sounds cool. Thanks for the clarification. I'll probably have to give it a watch. I did like how the "mummy" looked, very creepy. She had me with the eye thing.

This is why I enjoy indie films. Storytelling isn't dead, just the big studios.

Thanks, Ken. I will give it a go and hope for the best, and as Joshua says, the girl portraying the mummy looks awesome.
I was afraid of the "Tom Cruise" angle, as well, but the trailer really grabbed me--hoping to see this one soon.
Joshua, that eye thing was awesome! I love that part, and only that part, of the trailers I've seen.
Joshua wrote: "I was intrigued by the trailer, but from the sounds of it, it's more a Tom Cruise action movie than a horror movie, so that's a bummer."Yep, I am not at all interested in that kind of film. I'll wait for all of your reviews and probably catch it on cable someday.

Same, though I really do love her design. As soon as I heard Tom Cruise was in it my heart sunk. The only two films I've liked him in were Interview with the Vampire and Rock of Ages, the rest is far too 'stock action film' for me.
The trailer looks great, but like everyone else on here, when I found out that Tom Cruise was in it, I wasn't happy. He needs to stick with his action films and stay out of the horror industry. The mummy lady looks scary evil and it might be worth a watch, but it is going to be hard to watch it with Tom being the main character. They should have found someone else besides him to play that part.
I'm late to the conversation, but hated it. It was not at all scary, definitely felt like an action movie that never ended, and the mummy feels like an afterthought.

They would have been better off starting off with a new movie, not a reboot of the mummy - maybe if they had started with the Hyde story it would have been more successful.
