The Crooked Sixpence discussion

I just finished reading The Crooked Sixpence by Jennifer Bell. I lead a Newbery book club, and although this one hasn't won, I recommended it to many students in the group. It was exciting, fun and suspenseful. I cared about the characters and enjoyed the journey I took with them. Some aspects have the feel of both Harry Potter and The Girl Who Drank the Moon. Clearly this is the start of a series, which I think detracted a little bit from the end of the story. But I will be watching for the next one.
