Charissa (charissastastny) | 169 comments I loved Behind the Mask (Horstberg Saga #1) by Elizabeth D. Michaels Behind the Mask by Elizabeth D. Michaels. Nicholas du Woernig is the super evil villain, who causes grief and anguish even after he is dead. How many villains are capable of that?

A.L. Sowards | 2481 comments With mysteries, I always like it when the villain surprises me at the end, but as soon as it's revealed, it makes perfect sense. (In that type of book, I think it's boring if the villain is supposed to be a surprise, but is obvious instead. And I hate it when there aren't any clues, or worse, the POV character knows something that they aren't sharing with the reader.) I think Stephanie Black and Josi S. Kilpack do a good job with the "bad guys" in their mysteries.

In other genres, The Isabelle Webb series had a good bad guy. Legend of the Jewel (Isabelle Webb, #1) by N.C. Allen The Pharaoh's Daughter (Isabelle Webb, #2) by N.C. Allen The Grecian Princess (Isabelle Webb #3) by N.C. Allen

The Mistborn trilogy had some really formidable villains, like Lord Ruler in The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson . But it wasn't always a single villain. There were often entire armies of scary creatures to deal with.

Behind the Mask is one of the best books I've ever read! It still crosses my mind frequently and I've read it twice. I want to read it again, I'm just too darn busy!

Charissa (charissastastny) | 169 comments I've read it a couple times too. That whole series amazes me, how the villain returns, even if it's just to torture their mind after his death. He caused so much damage.

I think it's well worth the read, even for people who don't normally read a ton of fantasy.

Lucinda (lucindawhitney) | 57 comments Isn't Elizabeth D. Michaels a pen name for Anita Stansfield?
