Started this morning as planned............it's early but...........boy I'm not feeling it. After how much I loved the trilogy the first book and a tenth of the singles have a lot to be desired.

Would you rather move this to next month? Just in case it's a mood dependent thing?

I was going to start today but left my headphones at home on my way to work. So whatever you wanna do just let me know! I need a little break from the book I'm listening to

I'm more than half through, 68% to be precise.
I don't care a straw for any of the characters, so all that violence makes me indifferent.
Northmen, Named Man or not, are all the same to me: boring. Bremer dan Gorst is pathetic and Finree is a bitch.
I miss Glokta.

I'm closer to 20% done. It's improved but it still feels like a bunch of disconnected little stories vs the epic that was the trilogy.

Oh Scott we must have picked the worst set of books to buddy read. What can I even comment on? Yes the characters are interesting as always but there is literally nothing going on at this point and I'm almost halfway through

I'm halfway through as well. I cannot believe how bad the singles have been compared to the trilogy. Even characters we know like Black Dow and Bayaz seem like caricature to the series.

This thread has blown my mind. I tore through The Heroes so fast that I'm kinda shocked to see these comments. I liked it so much after really being a bit let down by Best Served Cold and not really expecting much. Really surprised. But then I knew there was no Glokta and made my peace with that. But there are so many great characters like Shivers, Whirrin of Bligh (did I spell that right?) and I just couldn't believe how much I enjoyed a morality neutral story about 3 days of battle.

Best Served Cold started out great. The first half was awesome and then it faded and became really predictable and boring. I just feel this book is the same. There isn't the same feel of plots within plots of the trilogy and the characters even the familiar ones seem diminished.

I liked best served cold and the characters focused on there, but this book seems like it's stretched too thin. He should be focusing on just two or so POV's

The second half of the book has been much better. Still not the trilogy level but on par with the first half of BSC.

I'll be finishing it tonight. I agree it's gotten waaay better.

Done, not much to say, but here's what I thought

(view spoiler)[we could be pretty much cut out most of the first half, that's how important it was. Second half got a lot better, with all of the things going on with Craw, Colder, and the takedown of Black Dow. Honestly I wish Craw would have been the one to become chief or king or whatever (who cares) because devolution is my jam. The most important thing is that I finally have an excuse to use "deux ex machina" in a sentence. But seriously though fuck off first of the magi, it makes me annoyed anytime it's revealed that he was behind the scenes and it makes things look sloppy/less complicated (hide spoiler)]

I still have about 20% left. I'll probably finish tomorrow.

I looked it up. Bayaz, Gorst and Calder. So we were both a little right.

Next book had better be changing things up that's for sure
