Well my reading addiction for this week has been the Age of Expansion series (on book 2 now) Awakened: Age Of Expansion - A Kurtherian Gambit Series and loving it
Doug - Thanks for letting me know about this discussion group. Not sure what's happening with amazon and I want to stay in touch with everyone. :-) Currently reading The Greatcoat series by Sebastien de Castell and loving it. A mix of fantasy and three musketeers.
This was kind of a test in case we get deleted off of Amazon, but I giving thought to starting a group here just to see if there are some other folks out there that can't find a decent group to join .... still thinking that over, not like I need something esle to eat up my time LOL
Thanks for the invite, Doug. It would be very sad to lose touch with our happy little group if Amazon decides to pull the plug. This probably will work better for our book discussions/ life observations than Facebook because of the book cover/link feature too.
Hope to see everyone over here. Cheers.
I am no good at this ... but I at least got in the group.I really don't know how Goodreads works .. just kept a book list here.
Glad this got started.
Thanks, Doug.
Personally I think Good Reads is the best alternative if something happens to Amazon forum. We can private message people without giving out email addresses on the public amazon thread which I know people have done from time to time to get in touch. It would be easier to set up spoiler threads for book discussions and have them all in one place. We could start a thread just to discuss movies it we wanted....so many options....
That was my thinking, you can do everything we do at Amazon and more, takes a small learning curve to tweak things (like finding the link to send me emails instantly when somebody posts.) Don't want to shut down our Amazon forum but Amazon does not seem to care much and the bot they use for deleting posts for G level language is ridiculous. I would lose my troll/stalker who loved to down-vote my posts anonymously but we all have to sacrifice LOL
Hi all. This looks good. I'm still reading Silver Silence. Haven't gotten much reading in today but the day's not over yet.
Silver Silence was great, not many series can have this many books and still have the quality of stories hers do but I would hate to try to pick it up without having read at least most if not all of the previous books
Good to hear that Silver Silence is good... I've got a bit of wait till December though. But it's not like I don't have about 1000 books that I can read while waiting.
Well I am really happy that you started this Doug. I think it is by far the best solution to the possibility of Amazon's discussion closing down. And remember how your can't find that book rec that was listed on the discussion site 5 weeks ago. Well we could make a book rec page here. So easy to find it.
Douglas wrote: "Well my reading addiction for this week has been the Age of Expansion series (on book 2 now) Awakened: Age Of Expansion - A Kurtherian Gambit Series and loving it"I preferred this arc better than the age of magic. I still haven't finished that arc.

I have finished all the Age of Magic books (there are 3 series now) except for the newest series Shades of Light: Age Of Magic - A Kurtherian Gambit Series since I already have invested time in so many of these series I did not need another one unless it looks to be exceptional, the synopsis did not WOW me. The Awakened: Age Of Expansion - A Kurtherian Gambit Series is about as good as the original series and I can't wait. He said he is going to end up the original series (2 more books) and the Michael series (1 more book) about the same time and start them off in a new series.

I decided I have enough time before my next review book to tackle The Red Queen's War about 1300 pages of what I hope is close to the quality of The Broken Empire
Douglas wrote: "I decided I have enough time before my next review book to tackle The Red Queen's War about 1300 pages of what I hope is close to the quality of The Broken Empire"1300 pages?! That's bigger than the Outlander books.
Hence the need to find a good place in time to read it :) I can say even though almost nothing has happened the first 5% of book 1 has been entertaining but good writing can do that ..
Douglas wrote: "I decided I have enough time before my next review book to tackle The Red Queen's War about 1300 pages of what I hope is close to the quality of The Broken Empire"1300 pages for all 3 books, though. I got the second coming to me soon. LOVED
. Prince Jalan had me laughing! I hope you enjoy it!
One thing I HAVE noticed about this format is that taking a second to actually use that "Currently Reading" pull down on all book pages if you want anyone here to see what you are reading when they click on the "Members" link off to the right, I never messed with it much but I will try to be more aware of it in the future.
I got to figure out how you add pictures also but i hope we don't start the horrible overuse of GIFs I see in a lot of the reviews here.

Will be creating a few more moderators also when/if we get a few more members since I really don't want this to be perceived as "Doug's Forum"
Doug - thanks for the invite although I'm not entirely sure how we're going to survive without the dv buttons...Silver Silence was great - I'm glad the second arc is off to a good start.
Thanks for the invite Douglas.I'm reading
by Jack Campbell (Sci Fi) and I'm finding it..a bit disappointing. I don't know if I would recommend the read. Maybe to Jack Campbell fans...
I have found Jack Campbell's books are not all golden :) I did enjoy the Lost Stars books but I cannot recall anything of his I have read since being that great.

That is what we do in another group I'm in.

Hi everyone,Thanks for the invite, Doug! I usually lurk over in the Amazon Forum. I think this group is a great idea. This is where I track the books I read. Sometimes I remember to mark the book I am reading. Other times, I come here to add the book I just read and rate it. My fav feature of Goodreads is that you see the books you friends are reading.
The Broken Empire world series are in this order:
The Broken Empire
The Red Queen's War
Red Sister (book 1 of what I assume will be a trilogy)
The Broken Empire
The Red Queen's War
Red Sister (book 1 of what I assume will be a trilogy)
@Douglas. My bad! You got all 7! WOW! That's a handfull. Yep, Red Sister is book one of a new trilogy in the same world

Thanks Doug, now I know what book to read next.
Welcome to all BTW and just a note, at the end of your last post at the bottom of the page there should be a sentence something like "You are following this discussion (instant email)." with an EDIT link next to it, I suggest you use one of those first 2 choices of Digest or Individual Email (my choice) to keep up with the group, this will keep you up to date without drowning you in emails or leaving you unaware of what we are discussing here.

I had to wait a long time between The Broken Empire and The Red Queen's War due to the length and the fact that The Broken Empire was such a stressful and emotional trilogy I did not really want to dive back in very soon.

Ooh... we've got a picture. Nice one. I'm reading a Sandra Brown
an author a Goodreads friend started a buddy read in another group and now I'm hooked. I love her, it's mystery/romantic suspense where I can never completely work it out. I'll be back to PNR shortly with Bec McMaster's new London Steampunk spin off coming out next week.
I got several books behind on Bec McMaster's books and really would like to get caught up at some point.
Douglas wrote: "I got several books behind on Bec McMaster's books and really would like to get caught up at some point."I do enjoy all her series (She's got three on the go at present) but I think the London Steampunk one is her best.
If you see any weird pictures, I am trying to figure out the best way to post a photo that is not a book cover, Photobucket seems best but if anyone clicks on the pix it seems they get some ads
UPDATE: For anyone who wishes to display a photo that is NOT a book cover and does NOT wish to use a 3rd party website, the easiest way seems to be to upload the photo into your Goodreads profile, then just rightclick and choose "Copy image address" and past it into your post and then add < img src="your image address you just copied" > (you have to remove those extra spaces I put in that example or maybe I can just use that same format with ANY photo on my Google Drive??
(more off the wall pix to come for a minute or 2)

Well, the need for such pictures should be rare and the above 2 options seem to work best :) Back to books LOL
