Should we have a timetable? Like one novel and 2-3 stories in every two months?

Yes, we could do that.
Marking my presence in this pleasurable (ad)venture.Loved the title and introduction, Aka. Doyle'll be proud of his fans :D
Can we start tonight if the rest don't have a bustling CR? I only have The Godfather going on at the moment, which I'm tempted to leave for a while to pick up a Holmes. If it's not ok with others, then I'll wait until another date is decided upon.
I will be regular in my lurking here. Have reread A study in Scarlet and The hound of Baskerville the year before last. Actually listened to the audio from librivox. So will join for the discussions.
Started. four chapters in. it's very interesting.
have seen the Cumberbatch TV show.... and realised it is slightly improvised.

Retold with elements drawn from many stories. I think Study in Pink, in itself, is a better story than Scarlet.
There was a reference of a character called Dupin from Edgar Ellen Poe. Anybody knows about this character?
Welcome Ankit. We will be reading many stories of Sherlock here. Do join in to increase the fun :)

Vote for the first book (the Poe one) Vijay suggested, and find the answer by yourself :)

Apart from elements from different story, I remember some modern touch also. Like deducing from scratches found on Watson's iPhone on their first meet....

Yes, Moffat says it's a modern retelling with 21st century setting and props while the essential stays unrouched.
The phone thing is taken from Sign of Four where exactly the same deductions are made from Watson's pocket watch. You have reached the part where they find a woman's wedding ring near the body, haven't you? That's another phone-other object swap. A mirroring role is played by Jennifer Wilson's phone, the "pink" phone, in A Study in Pink.
Interesting. I'll watch the TV series again after reading the related stories.... Just to notice these differences. Would be fun :)
Gorab wrote: "Interesting. I'll watch the TV series again after reading the related stories.... Just to notice these differences. Would be fun :)"Yes, almost everything is, in some way or the other, taken from one or the other story. It's up to the viewer to " deduce" the connections!
Excited to read Dupin now!
Will read more Holmes next year.

How was The Sign of Four, Aka?
Gorab wrote: "You're zooming superfast :)All are re-reads or you'll be reading some for first time?"
all rereads, but there are some that I read a while back.
Arpit wrote: "How was The Sign of Four, Aka?"I like Sign of Four a tad better than Scarlet. 5 stars.
Halfway down with Sign of Four. Liking it better than the first one.
And remembering the TV series again... the scene when Watson was introduced to Sherlock... and all that deductions from his iPhone! Now I know where that came in from :) :)

Regarding the TV episode of Study in Scarlet...

Sorry for deviating time and again with the TV series (No I don't mean this apology :P)
Is the TV episode of Sign of Four the same one where the lady comes in naked with the intention that Sherlock wouldn't be able to deduce anything from her clothes/attire?
Found semblance with the book story where the lady comes in with bland clothes and turban....

I think Mary Morstan's clothes were meant to be modestly beaitiful. But of course, it should be open to theories. But I cannot work out a parallel betwen Irene Adler and Mary, except that both are exceptionally strong women who win Sherlock Holmes over by nearly defeating him. Adler's story is The Scandal in Bohemia.

I think that bit is a wonderful improvisation. Cannot recall a similar situation in canon. But who knows, there might be one.

I, personally, intend to reread the whole thing at a stretch. Join in :)

That episode is called A Scandal in Belgravia, season 2, episode 1. The lady is Irene Adler.
I don't think there is any episode which is based on The Sign of Four.

The locked room mystery in the model of Sign of Four figures in The Blind Banker (season 1, episode 2), except there are Chinese acrobats instead of a savage from the Andamans. Major Sholto and Jonathan Small appear in Sign of Three (season 3, episode 2), a glimpse of a dwarf shooting darts through a blow-pipe is also shown in the same episode, though it is done as a reference to another case, not to mention John marrying Mary. Both of these episodes draw heavily upon Sign of Four.
The concept of AGRA, four people bound by an irrevocable vow, as shown in His Last Vow (3,iii) and The Six Thatchers(4,i), is also drawn from SoF. Of course there are numerous other instances where the novel is alluded to, but these, I think, are the most important ones.

Sure. Multiple episodes have elements from the book. My favourite being the Agra acronym ("What are you, Wikipedia?").
What I meant was no episode has story similar to The Sign of Four; for instance His Last Vow is based on the short story Charles Augustus Milverton.
