Is this where we can discuss the books?

Yes! We've recently reorganized our discussion threads, so you discuss any of the books in the series here.

Erin (eisawesome) | 10 comments I love the Inkheart series. They were filled with action, adventure well and magic.

What did everyone think of the movie? Do you wish they had continued with the movies, making one to correspond with each book in the series?

message 7: by Valpal (new)

Valpal | 29 comments I would have loved if they continued with the movies, especially since Cornelia Funke wrote the character of Mo specifically for Brendan Fraser. Unfortunately, I think they knew from the beginning that they were only going to make the one because they gave away pivotal points from the second and third novels.
What did you think of the movie's casting? Like I said previously, Brendan Fraser was meant for his role but I really enjoyed Paul Bettany as Dustfinger as well.

I loved Paul Bettany as Dustfinger, too. I wasn't a huge fan of Andy Serkis as Capricorn, though. His speech seemed too...rehearsed and unnatural, as if he were reading straight from the script. I also didn't find him as intimidating as I had initially expected, from solely reading the books.

I agree, I think it would have been challenging for them to make an additional 2 movies, considering what they gave away. I'm not sure that I would've gone to see the other movies. I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, because it didn't live up to my very high expectations. With the exception of Dustfinger, I wasn't a huge fan of the acting, and I didn't like their portrayal of some components of the book.

Valpal | 29 comments The movie felt very rushed to me and it was a definite let down. I wish they could have done it right to begin with and been able to do the whole series. At least we still have the books though!

Carmen Blankenship | 10 comments Oooo I am intrigued. These books sound like a lot of fun. I have recently read (and am currently reading) a lot of great women's fiction books. Something magical and exciting sounds refreshing.

I think you'll enjoy this series - the books are an easy read, and they take a bit of patience in the beginning, but the plot and the characters become more developed as the books progress. I would definitely read the books before seeing the movie, though, because the movie has quite a few inaccuracies and a few spoilers for the later books.

Carmen Blankenship | 10 comments Thank you Olivia, I will take your advice. In my opinion there are very few movies that have met my expectations of the book. The Hunger Games is the only movie that impressed me as far as accuracy. Same with Lonesome Dove.

I read Inkheart. It's easy to read and digest, but if you want a bit more action than some kidnapping and evil things coming to life, I suggest you read another book. This book is evenly paced, and I didn't have any difficulties trying to understand it.
I love Cornelia Funk! She has written a lot of great books. Dragon Rider is one of my favorite books. I also have a copy of The Thief Lord. I really enjoyed it.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I really enjoyed "Inkheart" and "Inkdeath." I thought "Inkspell" was the dullest of the three, and it took me longer to read it than the others. It would be so cool to be able to read things out of books! If you could control it, that is. ;) I saw the movie with high expectations, and was sorely disappointed. I think it could have been done much better, and I didn't like Brendan Fraser as Mo at all.
