Chava | 2786 comments This is the thread to nominate a book for Book of the month for August 2017. Please make sure you read the rules before posting:

Please be aware that if you nominate a book and it is chosen as one of the three winners, you are expected to moderate/lead the discussion. You need to be able to at least check in once to twice a week to keep the discussion going.

The rules:
1) Authors aren't allowed to nominate their own books and your post will be deleted (feel free to post in the authors' threads on our site) and you might be banned from the site!
2) 1 book suggestion/nomination per person
3) First come, first serve. So whoever gets their nomination for a book in first, gets dibs on that book
4) A book in a series is fine
5) Please be mindful that recent books might not be readily available (yet) and be mindful that your suggestion is available in multiple formats. Please do NOT suggest books that haven't been published yet.
6) Please check that a book hasn't already been read by checking our unread section of the bookshelf (it's not a 100%, I'm working on it).

Nominations will run until the 22nd of July 2017 with voting following via a poll.

Danny Tyran (danny_) | 135 comments Daughter of God by Lewis Perdue Daughter of God by Lewis Perdue

The Vatican has lost its most closely held secret--irrefutable proof of a woman Messiah named Sophia. Born in the Holy Land in 310 AD, Sophia was known for performing healing miracles. Her divinity threatened early Christian dogma and she was executed as a girl by Church authorities.

In the present, Zoe Ridgeway, an art broker, visits Switzerland with her husband Seth, where she expects to purchase the estate of a German art collector. But before Zoe can complete the transaction, she and Seth are drawn into a thousand-year-old web of conspiracy, murder and intrigue that begins and ends with the mystery of Sophia--and all the powerful forces who seek to protect their patriarchies from a divinely feminine truth.

Danny Tyran (danny_) | 135 comments And also: Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco

Bored with their work, and after reading too many manuscripts about occult conspiracy theories, three vanity publisher employees (Belbo, Diotallevi and Casaubon) invent their own conspiracy for fun. They call this satirical intellectual game "The Plan," a hoax that connects the medieval Knights Templar with other occult groups from ancient to modern times. This produces a map indicating the geographical point from which all the powers of the earth can be controlled—a point located in Paris, France, at Foucault’s Pendulum. But in a fateful turn the joke becomes all too real.

The three become increasingly obsessed with The Plan, and sometimes forget that it's just a game. Worse still, other conspiracy theorists learn about The Plan, and take it seriously. Belbo finds himself the target of a real secret society that believes he possesses the key to the lost treasure of the Knights Templar.

I've looked into this book and I don't deem this to fit with the purpose of our group. The book is classified as fantasy
