July 2017 Mini Challenges
A personal note from the mods:
I've been hounded by several people both on and off the boards this week as to when the challenge and Featured Author threads would go up. I just want to remind everyone that this is not a paid position, and the mods DO have lives and jobs off the boards. While I try to get these up at least a week in advance, please understand that that is not always possible. Real life sometimes gets in the way of our plans -- either with illness, a death in the family, working overtime, or severe weather that causes power outages or service disruptions -- all of which I personally have experienced the last few months. We appreciate your patience if a thread does not go up when you expect it, or you do not hear back from one of us right away.
Thank you.
Heather

Thank you so much to the moderators for running this group! It's a tremendous amount of work. I definitely would not want to take it all on! You do a great job, too!

Thank you so very much Heather!! I appreciate all that you do. It's a lot to do for a group with this many members. This applies to you also, Sandra.

An ambulance is considered a type of truck. A butterfly in a glass is actually dried, not the same process as taxidermy.

The King's Curse by Philippa Gregory 7/14/17
Heather, sorry to be so late with this, but thank you for all your hard work for this group!! I have not been able to read or visit my Goodreads friends much lately. I finally decided it was time to finish moving, which is taking all my time. Good news is that I WILL be all done by third week in July and will lock my doors and read! :)I am sorry for your many difficulties lately, especially of course a death in your family. I don't understand how you get everything done in normal times, much less with all your are going through lately.
Again, many thanks for all you do! July looks like such a fun challenge, but I might have to skip it, or just do a few of the books. I will definitely do the Summer Chhallenge!
Thanks, Marie! I hope you manage to finish your move ahead of schedule!
It is sometimes difficult to keep up, especially on days I go right from one job to another (usually Mon and Thurs). It was actually the unexpected death of my best friend from HS that hit me hardest this year in late March. Though we hadn't been close in a while, we still saw each other on occasion and had a lot of history together. That was followed by the funeral of an uncle in May. Not as close to him, but still a rough moment for the family. Anything that could break did so in April, and then I was sick half of last month, so yeah... 2017 has had quite a few rough patches. Thankfully, there have been quite a few good points last two months.

Heather, sorry to hear about that row of events, I hope thinks keep on improving (touching wood)
Heather it sounds like you are having almost as bad a year as I am. Losing my home in January, my brother dying in April and my mother in June. Then we had to put the oldest of the three dogs down on July 5th. I decided I needed a month off from major challenges, except those I was already involved in. I expect I will be back in August. In the meantime I'm here to cheer everyone on this month..
2017 is a horrible year and needs to go! I don't think my year has been as bad as yours Gary and Heather but between a minor car accident, my grandma dying in March and now I'll be having surgery in the next couple of weeks I'm looking forward to this year be over. Only bright spot is hopefully I'll get extra reading in since I'll be off work for 4-6 weeks.
My sister, who was rear ended a few weeks ago, which may have aggravated her exisiting spinal cord issues meaning I am driving her most places wants to flush the year already. Now back to the July reading.
Gary wrote: "My sister, who was rear ended a few weeks ago, which may have aggravated her exisiting spinal cord issues meaning I am driving her most places wants to flush the year already. Now back to the July ..."I'm sorry to hear that, Gary. So true that the rear-ended person is the one who has the pain and injuries; while the one at fault doesn't.
I'm really struggling for a truck. Would an RV like this one count?
.Or equally, what about the ambulance on
Trish, I had the same doubt, but Heather told me that an ambulance is a truck, so I'll read the second book in the Bradford's series:
(you can see an ambulance from the window!)

For trucks, you can also look at series by Laurie Cass (bookmobile) and J.J. Cook (firetruck, food truck).
