The winner of our poll was Evil is a Matter of Perspective: An Anthology of Antagonists edited by Adrian Collins!!

I'm very much looking forward to this one! :)

Silvana (silvaubrey) It is suddenly available in Kindle (for me to be able to buy) but my reading list this month and the next is pretty crazy. Will jump in some other month :(

Have a good discussion, guys! Definitely looks like a great anthology.

Rebekah Teller (rebekah_teller) | 11 comments I just started it last night and read the first story. Definitely looking forward to more!

I really liked the very interesting forward by RSB. Insightful stuff!

Yes, the forward was much more in-depth than I expected. I like grimdark/dark fantasy because it's closer to reality. It's more complicated, and you can feel that even when it's real and complicated, it's worthwhile.

I hadn't spent much time thinking about the philosophy of it, though. It reminded me of the phrase, "History is written by the winners." It always sounds like the losing side was wrong and evil, but we don't always have their point-of-view. The notion that good prevails, and we must be the good guys because we won, is seeded so deeply in our psyches.

I agree very insightful take on lord of the rings, good and evil and our perception

I'm about 40% through, so far my two favourites are by Shawn Speakman and Jeff Salyards.

message 11: by Veron (new)

Veron | 14 comments I enjoyed the forward too. It reminded me of a sketch I saw that had too german SS officers pondering if they were the bad guys since the had skull and crossbones badges on their uniforms.

I'm only on the second story so still a way to go.

Rebekah Teller (rebekah_teller) | 11 comments I just reached 40% as well and I've really enjoyed the writing styles of Mark Alder and Shawn Speakman. I'm glad there's a variety of styles. This is my first reading of any of these authors. So far, I've been able to follow the stories just fine without prior knowledge of their works. I hope that continues. This is a great way to sample so many different authors.

I'm now nearly 70% through, going camping today so I should have much more reading time. Yay! I have been so swamped the last 2 months I've barely had any time to read.

I love reading while camping - have a great trip!

Silvana (silvaubrey) Happy New Year, first of all.

I am planning to read this book around May or June. Anyone wants to join?

Sure! I've been itching to get to it.

Silvana (silvaubrey) How about end of May or mid June?

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 25 comments Mid June is better. I have a huge health project at work the first part of June til the 15th that totally saps my reading time (and sleep time).

Short stories might be a good way for me to ease back into reading as I catch up on sleep.

Silvana (silvaubrey) Got it.

Anyone else are welcome to join in this, uh, group read reboot :p

Silvana (silvaubrey) Just a reminder, Chris and I are buddy reading this book for June. We'll start on the 15th so everyone who has this book but don't have time to read it yet can join us :D

Silvana (silvaubrey) 50% in and at least five stories (by Fletcher, Speakman, Turner, Schafer, Salyards) are my favorites already.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 25 comments I've started, but onky read the introductions and the Fletcher story so far.

Silvana (silvaubrey) Forgot to say that my top three stories are the ones from Marc Turner, Peter Orullian and E.V. Morrigan. Anyone read their series?
