Perdido Street Station by China Mievelle. It's set in a squalid, gothic metropolis. Its chock full of weird lovecraftian/kafkaesque stuff, so be warned. It's a standalone story wise but there are two other books in the same setting. Also, A childhood favorite of mine is the edge chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Ridell. If (pseudo) children's books are acceptable options.
Hey Trevor - thanks a bunch for these book picks. You had me at "Lovecraft." We've been talking about covering some of his work. Perdido Street Station sounds like a gritty, raw read that would really make for a good show.
YA is totally fair game too. I'll check out the Edge Chronicles. Keep 'em coming!

Trevor - Perdido Street Station gets more and more enticing as I read the descriptions. We are going to take the plunge and read it within our next 5 reads!
We'll put the the dates and chapters/pages we're reading on the Schedule thread. Submit any questions/insights for each section if there's a tasty topic you want us to talk about. Cheers!
