Books of the Month - August 2017 Nominations
The Rook for fantasy. It was nominated last year but didn't get up...maybe it'll have better luck this time.
The Captive Flame (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...). It is the book being read by the Tome Show Book Club, a podcast which I'm one of the hosts. We plan to record at the end of August.
HiI'll nominate The Power by Naomi Alderman, about which I've been hearing very good things.
edit
Oh, it's SF btw.
I will nominate Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor for fantasy. It is amazing book that I've read recently that I know people in this group will love too.

By no means does that stop it from being nominated/picked as BoTM, just thought you might like to join us if it doesn't make it :-)

This is self-published it seems, so can't be nominated.
I would like to nominate The Mirror Empire for fantasy.

I second this nomination. And I'm hoping this month I get to do some reading that's not comics. Man, having two kids is really difficult.

This was ready in July of 2013.

List should reflect the latest nominations as of this post, please let me know if there are any issues.

id like The Rookie for sf"
This looks to be a self-published book, the publishing company was created by the writer so I don't think we can use this. Your thoughts Rinn?

Science Fiction noms:
Old Man's War by John Scalzi
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Attwood (Author of Handmaid's Tale. I keep getting told this book is even better than that one).
Artemis by Andy Weir (Author of The Martian)
Science Fiction NominationThe Prey of Gods by Nicky Drayden
Read this after hearing about it on Tor.com and it was wild and weird and wonderful and I want to talk to people about it!

Hey Kirby, nice book selection there, but each person can only nominate one book each month for the polls to keep it fair. There's a brief set of guidelines in the first post in this thread.
I think that both Oryx and Crake and Old Man's War have already been books of the month:

It doesn't look like the Andy Weir book is out until November unless I'm missing something? The Martian was really popular so I'm sure this will get a few votes if it's nominated later in the year :-)

What about 'The Witch Who Came In From the Cold' by Lindsay Smith and Max Gladstone. This one is fantasy. Please add this one for AUG poll :) Thanks!

- Nominations will be open for 24 hours and during that time we will take in as many nominations as possible.
- After 24-48 hours, 8 books from each genre will be chosen at random from the selection.
- Only ONE nomination per person (EITHER sci-fi OR fantasy)
- No books nominated last month may be re-nominated for August, instead you must wait until September to nominate them again. A book counts as "nominated" when it made it to the polls. If it was suggested, but not picked for the polls, it can be entered again.
- If books are part of a series, they must be the first, unless the group has already read the previous book(s)
- No authors nominating their own works
- No self-published or ebook only books
- Book nominations may be seconded in place of a suggestion, but this will count as your choice for the month. Seconded books will receive an additional chance of being selected in the randomisation process.
