90s paperback (cover had a forge and an eye on it, I think) that was about a young person training in a trade/feudal village. There were other craftspeople in the village including weaving, pottery, but the main character was training to make magic glass eyes that may or may not have been a connected to shapeshifting.

Was this part of a series?Do you remember any family, friends, villains, etc?
Other fantasy elements, like witches, dragons, trolls, etc?
The eye part reminds me of The Cabinet of Wonders, the first book of the Kronos Chronicles by Marie Rutkoski. I don't know if it's your book, but it might be worth looking at!
