Clara led Chen to her house and opened the door with the wave of her hand. "The guest room is just down the hall from the entry way. You're almost there."
Chen breathed heavily and rapidly, feeling dizzier as he walked. He had grown paler in the time it took to venture there.
"In here," she said, leading him the rest of the way. "Now, lay down and I'll go get you some water."
Clara made sure that he wouldnt fall off the bed before going to the kitchen to get a glass of water.
Chen slowly allowed himself to be lowered into the bed as his took heavy breaths. He watched Clara leave the room as he slowly shut his eyes.
She came back and looked down at him. "You really must be doing poorly," She was quiet trying to be quiet but she wanted to make sure he was doing alright. And if she could, she wanted to help him to the best of her ability.
Chen briefly opened his eyes before shutting them again. He nodded his head in agreement as he lay still.
Clara shook her head. He hadn't looked so bad before but then again, she hadn't dealt with starving children in a long time. "Well, rest here as long as you like. "I'll be back in a few hours to give you more water and something mild for you to eat. Something easy on the stomach."
Chen formed a weak smile. Such a kind person she was...
"When I am better, I will ask the gods to bless you for such compassion to a stranger."
"When I am better, I will ask the gods to bless you for such compassion to a stranger."
Chen closed his eyes and his breathing slowed. It was unclear if he was simply sleeping or unconscious from hunger.
Clara checked on him a few times in a three hour time period before finally making some plain rice and bringing it to him with a Golden Delicious apple, along with a fresh glass of water.
She knocked gently in case he had woken up in her absence.

She brought in the silver tray and set it on his bedside table. "You aren't looking any better. I guess I could make you some herbal tea."
His eyes showd a brief sparkle of joy. "My grandmother always made tea when we were sick..it was a family secret that always worked."
Chen couldn't help but smile a little too. "She gave it a silly name, never told us what was in it other than magic. It's tradition in our family for the daughters to learn to make the tea for when their family becomes ill."
"I guess I'll just have to give you what I know. And who knows, maybe I'll put a little magic in it myself," Clara told him.
Chen smiles playfully. "I don't know if there was actual magic or not l, but feel free to use some if You think it will help."
He gently shook his head. "Oh no. I just wanted to make it..clear that you don't have to use any."
"Many people call me a witch when they see what I can do," Clara said, set up the Yeah over his lap. "And they're right. But I don't practice dark magic."
"I don't see how colored magic is different, but you seem nice," Chen offered a friendly smile. "Certainly enough to help a stranger..."
"I mean you specified the magic is black. I don't see how that's different than any other magic."
"Have you..set food down yet?" He winced a little. "I'm sorry for asking but...kinda starving here."
"Oh..uhhh. never mind." Chen slowly reached up and took the food down from the tray. "So..go on?"
"Dark magic typically involves control, torture, and death. Where black magic tends to deal with making deals with demons in exchange for pieces of ones soul," Clara told him.
Chen began to consume some of the food...whatever it was. "We..don't have any of that. Or at least, I don't think we do." He was unsettled people would use magic for such things.
((please make sure to read the posts. and if you forget go back. When you don't it feels like you don't care enough to pay attention.))
"Yes, well not everyone in the universe is good. Whatever motivates someone to commit such atrocities must come with a heavy price," Clara told him.
"If they were in my home, they would surely be punished by the gods," Chen said confidently, taking a bite out of the apple. It was unlike any he had tasted before.
"Far too many people got away with their acts of terror, but they paid in their own way," she told him.
"I wonder what it would be like to live in a world as pure as yours."
"I wonder what it would be like to live in a world as pure as yours."
The Chinese boy ate some of his rice as he thought about Clara's comment. "I don't know what the rest of the world is like. I have rarely ever left my little village."
