That just made my entire body cringe.

I'm curious to know who all has read or is reading the book? If you're reading it, how are you liking it?
I finished it already. I wasn't the biggest fan. I thought it was really dark. The transitions between scenes were poorly explained and I feel like you needed a broad understanding of occult magic going into these books. The author assumed you were already familiar with the genre and didn't explain many things.
I also struggled with the foreign phrases through out the book many of them were never translated. I think there an interesting idea here, I'm just not sure it was executed as well as it could have been.

I read your review and his response. My copy doesn't have the glossary or Russian terms. That would definitely have helped. If there aren't enough context clues, terms I don't know can give me pause and cause the flow of the story to stop. I'm not a fan of that.
What did you all think of Alexi?
Alexi seemed more a victim of circumstance in many instances. It seemed more things just happened to him. I don't understand his motivation for staying with the Mafia or choosing the lifestyle he has. He's so over manipulated.
I'm on book 4 in the series and on the audio books I found it annoying that the narrator couldn't keep everyone's voices the same between the same books. Other than that I really love the series and thought it was well done and quite funny. Martin is probably my favorite character.
My favorite line was from book 2 when Gwen was arguing with the murderer and Martin thought "when arguing with an idiot, the idiot has the advantage because the idiot naturally thinks that way and the smart person has to translate their logic down to the idiot level.
I have laughed out loud so many times in this series. I lost count.
Trying to wrap my head around the whole Brit the Younger and Brit the Elder thing was frustrating at first but then seeing how all the other characters struggle with it has made it quite funny.
I absolutely love the Magic 2.0 series. Book 1 is Off to Be the Wizard.
