Donna Davis I recently finished reading the galley for this biography of Stonewall Jackson. In recommending it I was a little bit unsure, because although it is good work, I haven't read any other biographies of this particular general (having stayed in Union blue generally speaking, like my ancestor, LOL!)

For those who are more familiar with the Confederate generals or Stonewall in particular, what would you say is the definitive biography so far...or is there one?

Thanks for your help!

Richard Eldridge I think it is an accurate bio of Jackson. It is interesting and unbiased.

Jackson was an excellent military strategist. He was also a religious nut and it was not safe to serve under him. This is probably true of lots of other Civil War officers as well.

William Kepford I tend to favor both of these comments. But one thing Rebel Yell inferred if not outright declared was that McClellan was a sympathetic southerner. I found Gwynne's description/interpretation interesting. Or perhaps in read in wrong, perhaps he was saying that McClellan was the only person who thought he could save the Union and if someone else came close McClellan would sabotage it.

I need to follow up on this thought with some other (SUGGESTED?) reading. If anyone has any hints they would be welcome!

Esteban Stipnieks It is one of 2 that i read. It offers tantalizing clues that Stonewall Jackson was on the autism spectrum. If you look at what the writer described he described much austism spectrum behaviors.
