If you prohibit proper computers, of course you need a gigantic library. Because who doesn't love searching for hours to find one book?

Alex was walking through the almost silent library looking for David. He didn't want to bother his parabatai but he really wasn't feeling well. He felt weak and cold and was slightly shivery. He wasn't sure if he was catching some kind of illness or if it was the Yin-Fen or it could even be both but he wanted David even if it was stupid and childish. He just needed comfort right now and the only person who could give him that was David or he would be curled up in bed right now. He just hoped he wasn't bothering his parabatai as he knew he came to the library to get away from everyone including Alex which kind of hurt slightly but he could get wanting to be alone and Alex was kind of a burden sometimes anyway, what with the whole addiction thing. He just hoped he didn't find Neve with David as that would sting. David was avoiding him but perfectly okay with spending time with her.

While he was lost in his thoughts he ended up tripping over a stack of books and fell on his not quite healed yet side. He hissed in pain before looking around nervously to make sure no-one heard him. It couldn't get back to David that he was hurt. He had told David he was fine and he was for the most part as the warlock had done a good job patching him up but the wound was still there and it still hurt when touched. He hated lying to David but he couldn't know what Alex had really done or he would worry too much and Alex hated making David worry. He realised that while he had been lost in thought he was still lying on the floor and picked himself up getting some weird looks from a couple of younger shadowhunters. He ignored them and walked off continuing his search for his parabatai.

Why did Institute libraries have to be so big? Alex would never find him at this rate. But he carried on looking. He only stopped when a book caught his attention. It was a copy of the Three Musketeers a book that had been a favourite of his when he was younger. He picked it up with the intent to read it next time he was too weak to go on a mission, which would probably be soon the way he was feeling at the moment. Not being able to walk around as he slightly dizzy he sat down at the nearest table, resolving to find David when the dizzy spell had passed. If it passed, sometimes they could last a while.

[So sorry this is late, I was sorta multi-tasking. More like multi-failing. Mine might be a little bit shorter, than usual. I'll try and make it longer the next time.]

David was sitting at a table, far from the entrance. Much closer to the middle of the room. And for that he appreciated it. To him, it wasn't just the peacefulness of the silence, in the room, or not seeing Alex as he would've done. It was just the simple fact, if he kept worrying over him and his addiction it was going to cause him just the same pain. However, he couldn't deny Alexandre a audience with every now and than. Just he was a lot to take care, and of course he did need it.

Sometimes, I don't understand him and all at the same time I do. If only I could tolerate it a lot more for Alex. He wouldn't be in this state. But seeing him need Yin-Fen every time kills my heart a little more. He sighed, having this thought repeat itself in his head on and on, till he had to put his face in his hands... hoping it might clear his thoughts. Because the book he was reading, didn't do the trick. "Maybe you just care for him too much, David. Have you ever thought of that?"He muttered to himself, to only rake his hand through hair.

(( it's fine! don't worry about it! 8D ))

That final blow hurt like hell.

So here's a recap: Neve was training with other shadowhunters this morning. Elliot was... somewhere, life drained, after their mission last night. Neve stayed up until morning cleaning up the messes just enough so they wouldn't get trouble - it didn't make sense, no? You expected them to fight but make it quick and clean so downworlders won't come nagging after they wreck their places - Sonal Merryweather, everyone, never apply some sense to her set of stupid rules.

So when they trained, Neve was already losing, let's say, eighty percent of her energy. Three minutes, seven moves, and a fist blow to her chest and she was out.

That was a good start of the day.

So Neve called it for a day, dragged herself and her burning chest to infirmary, took some aspirin (no, she didn't use runes to solve all of her problems that would be too extra), and strolled back to her room.

Four doors later, she realized that her room was three floors above this one and no one would carry her bridal style there and this glass of water was such a heavy burden to carry all the way up there, so she decided to rest on the next room she saw, and it happened to be the most quiet, most lame, most boring place in the planet: Library.

In here, Neve could fall asleep into her death and her body wouldn't be found for a month because who the hell would go to library? Other than to hook up but that was so 2006 romcom.

However, Neve forgot that people like David Morgenstern existed. Surprisingly.

Neve recognized David everywhere with that square jaw that looked like he was eating his own cheeks, and when he was nearby you could smell books in the air because he practically use it as his perfume. Man, this boy was a nerd.

"Dudi!" Neve called. She always called people with made up nickname and especially when the said person disagree with it, Neve made her prospect clear to never drop the nickname, ever. She approached him, completely violated personal space protocol, and drag a chair until it touched David's. She sat, but positioned herself so her back was against David's shoulder, both feet dangling in the air while the arm of her chair supported her back of knees. "Lend me your shoulder, I'm in pain." Neve said, but judging of how she immediately rest her head on his shoulder and upper arm, clearly Neve wasn't waiting for answer nor approval.

Alex looked up when he heard a familiar voice shouting. It was one of the last people he wanted to see while in this state so he stayed where he was even if it looked like she had found David the one person he did want to see right now. He knew he would have to leave if he didn't want them to see him as he wasn't exactly hidden out of sight but he didn't feel up to moving just yet. He was still feeling dizzy and the shivers had just got worse but he pushed himself to move standing up slowly. He grasped the table hard when he felt himself start to sway. His grip was hard enough that his knuckles had begun to turn white.

He hated this. Why couldn't he just be normal? Shadowhunters didn't get sick. The Yin-Fen addiction was ruining him. David was always worried about him and there were days when he couldn't get up because of the drug wrecking his system. He knew that it wasn't his fault, he didn't choose to get kidnapped and this drug forced down his veins but seeing David's expression sometimes he couldn't help feeling it was. If only he was stronger he could but this even if there was no known cure. He just wanted to be
better.

He walked off hoping to avoid David and Neve clutching the copy of the three musketeers. At least if he did see them, he had an excuse as to why he was in the library rather than the pathetic one of wanting to see David. He decided to head towards the training room if he made it out of here without being caught. While in the training room he could push his body harder than ever and try and ignore the fact that he really wasn't well. A cough worked its way up his throat and his chest shook with the effort it took to keep it. Not that he managed to for long. The loud sound echoed round the library and he steadied himself against the shelves.

David jumped out of his a seat a little due to not expecting, anyone to come into the library. The only people who would come here would be Nerve or Alex to see him, and he figured the one who called out that god awful nickname was Nerve. Who else would it be? Because Alex surely would never call him that and if it was Nerve which he could tell right away, didn't know any better; he was in the middle of reading Hamlet.

"I swear sometimes, Nerve you make my patience dwindle the more I see you. And right now is quite crystal clear. Besides I thought Alex was going to be here, unless he decided to hide from me like usual."He chuckled. His parabatai always hid when he was surrounded by their third counterpart: Nerve von-mainz. The strange yet intriguing girl who always followed along suit in their missions from time to time. "Here, come with me. I have a high feeling Alex is trying to play hide-and-seek from me."He smirked

As he slowly helped, Nerve out of the chair seeing she was hurting from practicing in the training room, he grabbed onto the copy he clutched closely in his hand, and pushed his chair in before he started looking for Alex with Nerve following closely.

"Or we could like, kiss, audibly. That'll lure him out for sure." Neve shrugged. She wasn't really digging into this, because she didn't see the benefit of it anyway; no matter how much David tried to hide himself, even when it meant burying himself in ten thousand copies of Shakespeare's plays, Alex would come crawling back at him. So, that was merely David trying to get away from her with the most polite excuse he could think of.

David's exasperating patience was fascinating for Neve to explore, wondering what might lie beneath all the proper English-ness of the golden boy. To put it simple, Neve didn't believe in always-good-guy persona. Everyone had dark in them and Neve just hadn't discovered David's. Yet.

She followed David, kind of unwillingly, as she ran her fingers on the spine of these old books. Then, by the end of it, she finally saw Alex on the other side of the alley, either trying to hide himself on that tiny space between shelves, or trying to get out before either David or Neve found him.

"Oh, 'tis you, the frenchiest fry."

To put it straight, Neve knew how much Alex despise her. Not only that Neve singlehandedly ruined his perfect little system but Alex, underneath the sick-looking quiet gaze, probably felt disturbed because he had to share David with some random Cali girl who smelled like sour candy.

Also by Neve's observation, she'd say Alex and David's definition of perfect system was: 'silently giving each other worried look like the significant other is a fragile lightbulb rather than talk about how this game of pretending to be okay feels like a gutshot'. Then again, Neve wasn't exactly the best person to judge on this department, considering Neve herself was even bigger of an arse. Nevertheless it was still mesmerizing to rattle their ego until one of them break this never ending Matryoshka facade.

You're dying and desperately want to grow old, the other fears that one day the burden than keeps him grounded will be gone and he'll be floating alone on top of the world - just say it, say that by the end of the day it's about feeding your own mental health, Neve always thought.

"Were you looking for Dudi and then abort the mission because I am here, Lander? 'Cause the cough was a nice passive-aggressive touch but that book is so not one of your liking."

You look dead, she didn't say.

Alex frowned at himself when he realised he wasn't strong enough to actually stand properly. He had to keep leaning on the shelf even when his coughs subsided. He hated to think of what a sight he made to the others in the library, relying on the shelves to hold him up, hair plastered to his forehead, his skin pale and eyes bloodshot and red rimmed. He probably looked like the addict he was which made him uncommonly angry. He hated this. He hated all of this. He just wanted to be well. To be normal, not the freak who was dying and couldn't talk.

He wished he had the strength to punch something right now or someone. Just something to let the anger out so he didn't feel like a complete failure of a shadowhunter. But then again, that's what he was wasn't he? A failure. Someone who was weak. Useless. After all who else would allow themselves to get addicted to Yin-Fen most people would rather die at least it was an honourable death rather than an addiction eating away at his body until nothing was left. It just wasn't fair, he thought.

In his blind anger and lost in his inner thoughts, Alex didn't realise that his hand was clenched in a fist and once he had he registered a stinging sensation. He unclenched his hand and looked at the bloody nail marks he had left behind and sighed. He couldn't let anyone see them especially not David.

He jumped about half a mile when he heard Neve speaking to him and carefully hid his hand behind his back so they wouldn't notice the blood. He glared at Neve for the ridiculous nickname and rolled his eyes, a usual behaviour from him where she was concerned. He sometimes wished he could throw out a scathing comment like he would have done before this whole mess or at least a pen and some paper so he could make his displeasure known. But alas he left his notebook in his room as he wasn't expecting to interact with anyone but David.

Also had she just called him the frenchiest fry? What? He glared at her more for that comment.
