Andrea | 5 comments Hey guys.
I just finished Hamlet, Prince of Denmark (a Novel) by A.J. Hartley and I was wondering if anyone else has read either this, Macbeth, or Romeo and Juliet and what you guys thought :)

Monica (mismoniker) | 14 comments I really enjoyed the Macbeth novel. Hamlet was not as strong to me, but I did like it. I didn't know that he had done a Romeo and Juliet, but I'll check it out.

I like how much language he keeps, fills in some of the blanks with imaginative storytelling, developed the characters.

Andrea | 5 comments That's what I was wondering. Hamlet didn't really work for me, but I did love the idea of incorporating Yorrik, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to pick up Macbeth.
I think Romeo and Juliet was just written by one of them, I just found the audio because it's read by Richard Armitage :D

Tracey (stewartry) I started the audiobook of their "Macbeth" ... Honestly, I thought it was one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a long time. I love the Scottish play, and I love Alan Cumming, who narrated, so for me to hate this book with the blinding passion it inspired means it was a pretty big dumpster fire. (My review is here if anyone wants detail.) Now when I see the names Hewson and Hartley I run far and fast.

But, as always, Your Mileage May Vary.

Andrea | 5 comments Oh boy. That does my sound good... and I thought I hated everyone (save Yorrik) in what they made out of Hamlet (I agree, those two are not fans of subtlety. They repeatedly beat us over the head with just how abuse Hamlet Sr. Was. Which was absurd because then why would anyone give a damn about his awful soul being stuck in purgatory???)... which I only finished because hello, read by Richard Armitage. Alan Cummings was the only thing that would get me to listen to Macbeth after that disaster of a book...

Tracey (stewartry) What a waste of two really great narrators!

Andrea | 5 comments I know... And here I thought the man could make anything interesting.

Tracey (stewartry) Not to digress too far from the the topic, but I learned that "I'd listen to him read the phone book" isn't actually true when I listened to Sir Ian McKellen read an absolutely awful translation of The Odyssey. He's glorious, and does as much as possible with a horrible, repetitive, painfully worded book, and even Sir Ian couldn't save it.

What a pity - Armitage read Romeo & Juliet, too.

Andrea | 5 comments Oh dear. That is sad! So even Sir Ian can't save anything. Bummer...

I know, that's the reason I'm still considering getting Romeo&Juliet at some point... And only one of them wrote that one, so maybe...
