A hallway by any other name would smell as sweet.

Graduate on time OR skip a stupidly drawn-out Bio class? Aiden did not want to get up from his spot on the corridor floor, quickly figuring out that this was a strictly public school thing since all these rich kids were giving him. But he kind of needed to get ready for his next class since it was one that he'd already skipped two other times this week. Maybe he should feel bad ━ especially since he's here on scholarship ━ but he still couldn't bring his legs to move. Aiden let his head fall back against his locker, eyes closed as he thought about his parents' stern faces. They were the only reason he was here, after all. While it was nice to have them off his back, it sucked having to actually do shit.

"UGH!" Aiden yelled, not caring about the people around him that seemed to stop and give him dirty looks; no need to have his open when he could feel the glares they were all giving him. "Nothing to see here folks, keep it movin'," he muttered, his body slack against the locker. Yep, still no progress there. Whose idea was it to actually send students to school. Wasn't there supposed to be some kind of tragedy going on? If only this was Hogwarts; then they would've called off the damn exams.

Jason Park was not at all inclined to go to class. Class was full of people, and stress, and teachers telling him he needed to study for three hours every day excluding homework and assignments. Spotting Aiden, he slid through the crowded corridor and dropped to his knees. "There's much more space down here," he said. "Is it because everyone's always trying to get to the top, or because they're all so stick-figure-ish?" Sometimes Jason wondered why he had chosen STEM — then he remembered that Humanities required actual effort and analysis, which mathematics did not. You couldn't just stick things into formulas, you had to actually remember quotations and dates and all that sort of thing.

"We should probably go to Bio," he said, with no real intention to go anywhere near the Biology classroom. Jason loathed Biology — Chemistry and Physics at least had the decency to make sense, but Bio was just a bunch of abnormalities stuck on top of each other. And it had no real point, unless you wanted to become a professional gardener (or a doctor), which Jason most certainly did not. Unfortunately, there wasn't anywhere else they could go.

It was a relief to spot Jason heading towards him — even though he barely noticed the boy until he was on top of him. For people that always seemed like they had somewhere to be, the corridors (yep, a fancy rich people term when hallway would suffice) were always full of students clamoring to get to class. Funny how the never seemed to make it very far. Aiden shook his head at his friend's comment, a half-smile on his lips. "Maybe it's because their heads are so much bigger than the rest of them, y'know. More space at the bottom." He responded lightly, thankful for the biology distraction. Aiden wasn't sure why the two had become friends, but he was happy they had. Jason always seemed to understand how Aiden felt — and was likely the only other person who really didn't care about trying super hard. It was refreshing in an environment like this one.

"You ruined the moment, dude." Aiden groaned, noting the lack of enthusiasm that coated Jason's tone as he said "Bio." It was a known fact that biology sucked and that it was pointless when it was forced upon people who didn't give a damn about cells or plants or bodily processes. Sure, maybe the basics were nice to know; but the class that was offered at Littlerock was just excessive — which, c'mon, what else would it be? "Can't we just stay here for the period? Maybe they won't notice us. Most of 'em don't look down, anyways."

jason is like ten centimetres taller than aiden and i can just picture him holding it over aiden's head

"Easy for you to say, midget. Nobody'd notice you down there." Jason nudged Aiden teasingly. "But yeah, their noses are probably too far up in the air for them to look at us without going cross-eyed." He supposed that he was exempt from all the rich-people nonsense, mostly because it was high achievers nonsense as well and Jason was not a high achiever in any possible sense of the word. "And what are we going into, anyway? I want to be a rocket scientist, not a doctor — and your specialty is engineering for crying out loud. It's got nothing to do with DNA or whatever other cellular thingumabob we're learning about now."

And what was the worst thing that could happen if they did skip? Detention, maybe, but class was worse than detention. Besides, that would require them to get caught. Nobody paid attention to the roll (when it actually got marked in the first place). and Jason suspected the teacher would be glad if he didn't show. Constantly ignoring instructions, asking patently stupid questions, turning every pop quiz into a joke it's a meme, get with the times you useless old bat — he was their worst nightmare, and he'd lost count of the number of times he'd climbed back through the window after being kicked out. Or worse, that time when he stuck the frog's leg into a powerpoint and the thing spasmed free and started jumping around the classroom. There were countless reasons why he didn't want to go, and just as many why nobody would miss him.

oh my god, i'm here for this

Aiden shot his friend an unamused look at the crack about his height. Really, he wasn't bothered by it; he knew he was on the short side. "They can smell the poor people off of me, and well, you're guilty by association, my friend." Aiden said with a smile and poke of his elbow. He knew they needed to get to class, knew that if they were caught skiving off they'd be thrust into detention. And detention was arguably worse than dealing with biology — even if neither of them needed to learn it in the first place. "Rockwell is one of the schools that thinks they know what kids need to learn but is usually wrong." Aiden agreed with a sigh.

Really, it wasn't like Rockwell was even known for their security or their rules. Like, yeah, it was rich kids' school — but the administration expected these kids to be good. Would they even be noticed if they skipped? Hell, they could probably make a fake note and be fine by the occasional administrator that walked by. Aiden shrugged, letting his head roll so that he could look at his friend. Jason wasn't exactly known to be the best kid — and neither was Aiden, for that matter. The bio teacher would probably sigh in relief when they noticed that the two of them were missing. "I mean, it's not like we'd be missing anything if we did miss." He commented, eyebrows raised.
