Brilliant! The lovely Stephanie has offered to lead this group read :) she is going to be posting the threads for the chapter divides and things :)

it will be a great one to discuss I think :)

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Ha! Apparently I said I'd join up for the group read without even being a member! Oops. Problem fixed! :-)

Marie-vicky (grimace) | 12 comments Looking forward to read Mansfield Park and discuss about it with all of you. I have downloaded it on my tablet which will make more readable than my twenty years old pocket edition....

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll be reading it for the first time on my ipad. I won't be able to use the usual leather bound book this time! I still sort of feel like I'll be cheating. :-D

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 235 comments I'll be reading on my iPhone.

I haven't decided between kindle or real book yet. Kindle if I can!

I am off on a holiday tomorrow and will be back just in time for the group read to start - the internet where I am going will be intermittent at best! But the wonderful Stephanie will have everything ready and I will be back just in time :)

message 15: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephanie-jo) | 111 comments I am going to get the topics set up this coming week. I plan on using my paperback version....just can't read on my NOOK.

message 16: by Caledonia (new)

Caledonia Habenschuss Mansfield is my 3rd favourite by Austen, so excited to read again! =)

Nicole(thereadingrebel) (thereadingrebel) | 158 comments I can't read Jane Austen on an ereader so of course I will be reading in hardcover or paperback.I have one of each.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I have it all ready to go on my ipad now. Though, as much as I like reading on an ipad, it's just not the same in the case of anything Austen. :-)

message 19: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelkisley) How do these work? Are we given certain pages / chapters to read each week / day? Thanks x

message 20: by Irene (new)

Irene | 271 comments Usually a discussion is set for each group of chapters, for instance from chapter 1 to 5, so that everyone can comment on that section whenever they reach the end. This way you can read at your own pace, without spoiling the fun.

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 235 comments Will there be summaries for each section (not chapter!)? As with the Emma group read? I found them to be very helpful for staying within section boundaries or not exceeding them.

It is as Irene said :) this group read is being led by Stephanie but I am sure she will include some sort of summary for the folders she puts up. I think she is putting them up very soon!

Heather (heathermushroom) | 5 comments I started the book yesterday! Enjoying it so far. :)

Just realized something...were we going to start at the beginning of July or later on in the month? If later, I can wait a bit or slow down in my reading... ;)

message 24: by Irene (new)

Irene | 271 comments Don't worry Heather, I'm already reading it as well because my July will be very busy... To help me remember, I'm taking a few notes so that it'll be easier to comment later :-)

The official start date is Sunday, 6th, as that is when I am back from holiday :)

I tried to read Mansfield park on my tablet but it didn't work for me....I went to buy a paperback yesterday and I had to restart over. I ignored the reason why I couldn't plunge freely and enjoy Jane Austen's words on my tablet. Reading a paper copy, I just feel more touch by Austen romanticism .
Happy reading......

message 27: by Heather (new)

Heather (heathermushroom) | 5 comments Okay, thanks, Irene and Soph! :)

And I agree....I don't think I could easily read Austen on an ereader. Just wouldn't do it justice somehow. ;)

Victoria_Grossack Grossack (victoriagrossack) | 66 comments Came by to see how the discussion was going, but it has not started yet. Was very busy the last couple of months with some non fiction projects but have gotten through the bulk of the work so should be able to enjoy the discussion.

I have mixed feelings about Mansfield Park, so I think the discussion should be interesting.

message 29: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephanie-jo) | 111 comments I am going to be posting the topics this weekend as I believe the official start date is July 6. I promise to have at least the first 2 posted Saturday and more posted on Sunday.

message 30: by Irene (new)

Irene | 271 comments I already started reding the novel and taking notes here and there... will you forgive me for pouring a lot of comments on you during the first days and then probably disappear for a while?

message 31: by Sophie, Your Lovely Moderator (new)

No worries Irene!

And thanks Stephanie! I am back now and ready to start tomorrow - the official start date is tomorrow, the 6th :)

There are often mixed feelings about MP so I think it will be interesting :)

message 32: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelkisley) Is the group read a few chapters per week or every few days? I've seen that discussion is up for Chapters 1-3, I'm just wondering how long between them and the next set, so I know how to pace myself.

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 235 comments @Rachel

Good question!

Stephanie is leading this one and she said she would post a few more topics today. General it is 'at your own pace' sort of things. Please keep reading and just jot down your comments or something - I am sure Stephanie will be posting more topics soon :)

message 35: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephanie-jo) | 111 comments I am working on getting the rest of the chapters up, but working slow as I am on a tablet since my computer is acting up. Sorry for the delays.

Don't apologise! I am grateful you are leading this one for me :)

Sorry for my quietness recently!! Rubbish moderator!!

I have been keeping up with the convos for the group read which have been brilliant!! It has been a great group read.

I haven't been all that well recently hence why I haven't joined in. Also, this past week I have had my cousin to stay so, sorry about that! But you don't need me - the discussions are brilliant!
