Lindsay Nixon (happyherbivore) | 11 comments Let's get this group going shall we :)

Hi :) I'm Lindsay

I read
*thrillers
*chicklit
*memoirs

with a mixture of business books and science books (mainly for work)

Every few books I force myself to read something that is radically different from my usual (horror, fantasy, historical, sci-fi have been recent tries) and often like it but then go right back to my usual... I'm working on it.

Rachel Halverson | 1 comments Hi, I'm Rachel :D

There's really not a type of book I don't enjoy. I tend to inhale self-help books and books about health. I also love books written by nurses or doctors about their experiences (I'm a nursing student, so it's always interesting to me). I also love anything that makes me laugh - Amy Schumer's book and Tina Fey's book I could read over and over 😂

I'd love to be able to read and discuss with a group!! My friends aren't readers. 😭

Melissa Chlopecki | 2 comments Hi! I'm Melissa. I'm a library junky. I love going down the shelves to explore new books and finding new authors that way. I love Book Page magazine from the library. I gets to read reviews and see what new releases are coming out.

I read basically everything but mostly fiction and some non fiction. I also belong to a book club at the library which I really enjoy since it introduces you to new authors and the discussions can get interesting given we are between the ages of 20 to 70.

I might not be on the same reading schedule as others but I read 40 books a year. Yea books!

PS. I currently have over 200 books on my to read list and it's constantly growing. I wonder who has the highest number of books on their to read list. :)

Jackief | 4 comments Hi, I'm Jackie. I'm an historian and I teach full-time at a college near Portland. It's a dream job. All of my books are paid for by the college, and I suspect i have the largest collection of books to read of any of us (I'm in my 21st year as a history professor). For a long time, both while in graduate school and after i finished my PhD, i felt guilty reading fiction unless it dated back to the late 19th century - 1960s. My specialty is cultural history, so I can always "justify" watching older movies and reading older novels and magazines. Other than that, I've always tried to stay somewhat current in the larger field of American history. I always read the New York Review of Books, The New York Times Book Review, The London Review, and The Times Literary Supplement, as well as history scholarly journals. I have to very deliberately carve out time to read current literature, but I've gotten better at it as I've grown older (just turned 60). I've also started an Audible subscription, and listen to books whenever I take a long soaking bath (I've dropped several tomes in the bathwater, so Audible is a much better option). My favorites last year were Stoner, along with several collections by Mavis Gallant and by Joan Didion. I vow to try harder this year to record and review my books on GoodReads! I'll be watching to see what evetyone else enjoys reading!
