I'm looking for a romance I read in the 80's. It was set in the west (or a prairie town). The hero is a doctor and the heroine is deaf, but all the townspeople think she's mentally challenged. The doctor, of course, figures out she's very smart, and she's doesn't talk because she can't hear. As I recall, she has an abusive, drunk dad.
