Yes, and my personal favorite. My gateway into fantasy and the BAF series. I have three or four different covers of Joy Chant's novel.

Typically, it is LOTR with which Red Moon Black Mountain is 'suspiciously' linked (see https://www.blackgate.com/2012/05/24/...) . In any case, it is remarkable that Ms. Chant's work still continues to draw criticism for its resemblance to other high fantasies of the 20th century. That would be akin to noting the suspicious relationship between LOTR and the Volsunga Saga. Perhaps it was Ms. Chant's young age when the novel was published and received a Mythopoeic Award, but I don't think the overall contribution of her singular vision in Red Moon and Black Mountain, The Grey Mane of Morning, and When Voiha Wakes has yet been given its due.
