I listen to audiobooks on my morning runs and evening bike commutes, so I usually finish an audiobook a week that way.

I'm thinking of trying Voice Dream Reader. It's a text to speech app and you can buy additional voices for $5. It won't be as good as an audiobook with a performer...it will be more robotish, but for me there are so many books that are not available in audio like Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. The only thing that is stopping me is learning how to operate the app. Sometimes I just don't want to learn something technical and get frustrated, but I think I'll get the app soon. My list of books that I want to read, but can't is growing.
I kind of consider it reading, like no it's not physically reading, but I still say I've read the book. I love audiobooks.
I always have an audiobook going on in the background. I consider listen as just another form of reading. Plus, if you have a hard time getting into a book when reading, then listening may make it better.
Studies have shown that being read to (whether a parent or teacher or audiobook) improves vocabulary and critical thinking. Even if you're not physically holding the book, you're still taking it in and enjoying the story.Being an adult (sort of) with a grown-up job, I have a 30-45 minute commute each way, so I love having an audiobook to keep me company. You can only listen to the top 40 hits for so long before you yearn for something different.
I would usually listen to audio books during a long car ride if I'm sitting either in the passenger seat or the backseat.

That's why I started listening to them as well. I always figure if I had a 10 minute commute, maybe I'd spend an hour a day reading. But since I can't spend that time with a paper book, I spend it listening to one.
My son used to find my books annoying, but when he outgrew picture books, I started listening to middle grade books with him, and now he loves audiobooks too. Another way we can share a book when I don't have time to read to him at night.

My family enjoys listening to audiobooks during car trips: it is a great way to enjoy literature together! At the end of one such book I asked what everyone thought. I told the that I thought I could do better. The kids called me out, and I just published my first book!
