This was once again a great story, much broader in scope from the first one. Since all of the monasteries and nunneries have been taken over by the crown, Joanna is living on her own, trying to take care of Athur, her cousins son. Some of her Stafford family realize her prophesied role, and try to encourage (forcefully) to join them. Eventually Joanna gets drawn in and her adventures take her undercover traveling through Europe.
This won the RT (Romantic Times) Reviewer Choice award. (Reviewers' Choice Awards honor the best books of the year. The winners and nominees are selected by the RT staff of over 50 reviewers representing the readers' voice in the women's fiction industry.)
While I enjoy the series, I wouldn't really consider it a romance book. There are two men that Joanna has feelings for, but it is very chaste - not a typical historical romance genre book. However, it is well written with interesting characters so from that standpoint, it deserves some recognition.
