1.7 (Mickslibrarian's Task) The Wild Outdoors
August is a great month for camping, beaching, and other outdoor pursuits.
Read a book with "Nature" as a main page genre. It may be standalone or embedded.

Two Point Tasks

2.1 (Tessa's Task) The Amazing Race
Read Two Books

1. Capture the Flag
Read a book set in Italy (must be at less set 75% in chosen country).

2. Detour
To reach your detour complete one of the following tasks.

a) The Renaissance began in Italy. Among the artists who flourished in this period are Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.
* Read a book where the first letter of every word in the title can be found in either MICHELANGELO or LEONARDO DA VINCI (All words count; 2-word minimum)

b) Great explorers came from Italy, among them Christopher Columbus and Marco Polo.
* Read a book with a ship on the cover (must be an ocean-going vessel, not just a canoe or small sailboat). Post the cover.

c) From 1523 to 1978 every Pope was Italian. Pope John Paul II (elected 16Oct78) was the first Polish Pope, and the first non-Italian since Adrian VI (1522-1523).
* Read a book with a main page genre of RELIGION.

d) The art, architecture, scenery and history are true draws for tourists to Italy, but let’s face it…. The main reason to go to Italy is for the food. The Italians know how to eat!
* Read a book by an author whose initials can be found in: ITALIAN CUISINE. Middle names/initials DO count. Initials can be used only as often as they appear in the phrase. So Laura Lippmann would NOT work because there is only one ‘L’ in the phrase.

2.2 Surprise Me
Read two books

Go to link: Surprise Me Task for details.

2.3 (Bethany's Task) SciFi and Fantasy Week on Goodreads
Read Two Books

Read one book that is Science Fiction and one book labeled Fantasy.

(more info: Science Fiction & Fantasy Week)

2.4 (Mickslibrarian's Task) Total Eclipse of the Sun
On Monday, August 21, the first total solar eclipse visible in the contiguous United States since 1918 will occur, and I will get to see it! Even if you can't see the whole thing, you should be able to see a partial eclipse from anywhere in the lower 48 - but make sure you have the proper eyeware. We don't want anyone unable to read books because they looked at the sun without solar glasses.
For more information, visit Eclipse 2017.org, and read two books to celebrate.

1. Read a book that has a sun or a shadow on the cover.
BONUS POINT if it has a sun AND a shadow. (Show the cover).

2. Read a book that is set in one of the states where a total eclipse of the sun is visible - Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina or South Carolina.

2.5 (Wanda's Task) Happy 50th Anniversary!
Read Two Books
On August 19th, my husband and I will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. These past fifty years have flown by! We have been blessed with 2 wonderful children who are hosting a "Golden Wedding Anniversary" celebration for us on that date. We are so looking forward to the fellowship with family and friends. So in honor of this auspicious occasion here is your task for the two books.

Book #1- The 50th wedding anniversary is also the Golden anniversary. You have two possible ways to accomplish this:
The color of cover should be at least 50% gold or you can read a book that has any number in the title. The number may be written (three), expressed in numbers (3) or even an ordinal number (third).

Book #2- The past 50 years have been filled with so many emotions and of course mostly with love. However, there have been times, if I am honest, when the idea of murder did rear its ugly head! Just kidding, I think. So once again you can choose two ways to fulfill this task:
Go for the romantic love angle and read a book that has ROMANCE listed on the MPG or take the murder and read a Murder Mystery. Either way have fun !

3.1 (Bethany's Task) More Excitement About the Total Solar Eclipse
Read Three Books
This month, the continental US will experience a total solar eclipse! I live about an hour away from one of the areas of totality, so I'm super excited!
If you'd like to learn more, visit: Science & Health

Please choose three of the choices below to help celebrate:
1. Read a book whose title includes one of these words: sun, moon, eclipse, light, dark, shadow

2. Read a book with a picture of the sun, moon, or stars on the cover (show cover)

3. Read a book set in space

4. Read a book about astronomy

5. Read a book where you can find the author's first and last initials in ECLIPSE

Five Point Task

5.1 (Spell-out task) The Last of the Summer
Read 5 books

Summer Fruit & Summer Fun
Spell-out the word PEACH or BEACH

example:
Bridge Across the Ocean (A) by Susan Meissner
Elin Hilderbrand's The Identicals
Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber
Cottingley Secret (The) by Hazel Gaynor
Hunter, Georgia - We Were the Lucky Ones

(Your may use the first letter of the first word of the book title (exclude a, an, or the) -OR- the initials of an author's first or last name).
Don't forget to list the date you read your books.
